Arizona’s Aari McDonald Naismith Defensive Player of the Year finalist

Information from the Arizona media relations department contributed to this report:

All-American guard and two-time Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year Aari McDonaldwas named one of the four finalists for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award on Monday morning for the second year in a row.

McDonald led the Pac-12 in steals per game averaging 2.7 per game for three consecutive years. McDonald has had at least three steals in each of her last seven games, including a season-high six at Arizona State in the last game of the regular season.

She routinely picks up the opposing team’s point guard full court for 35-plus minutes per game, causing havoc on the defensive end. This is the second-straight season McDonald has been named a finalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award.

McDonald and the No. 3-seeded Wildcats will play in the first round of the NCAA Tournament later today as they take on No. 14-seeded Stony Brook at 11 a.m. at the Alamodome on ESPN2.
