Ken Jacome earns 200th career victory as Pima’s baseball coach

The Pima Community College baseball team swept a doubleheader at Glendale on Tuesday, earning coach Ken Jacome his 200th career victory as the Aztecs’ coach in the process.

The No. 18 Aztecs (26-8, 12-6 in ACCAC) return to the West Campus Aztec Field on Saturday when they host GateWay for an ACCAC doubleheader. First pitch is at noon.

Jacome is 200-84 in six seasons as the Aztecs’ coach.

“I’m very grateful for all the players and coaches who helped make that happen,” Jacome said in a Pima release. “The wins were earned by lots of fantastic players who took a chance on Pima College. I’m thankful for each and every individual that helped play a part.”

Sophomore Elijah Reeves(Marana) finished the day going 5 for 9 with an RBI, three runs scored and two steals against Glendale (26-9, 9-9). Freshman Collin Seniorwent 4 for 8 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore Austin Madsen(Canyon del Oro) was 3 for 8 with two RBIs and two runs. Sophomore Diego Alvarez(Sahuarita) and freshman Nate Graycombined to pitch13 1/3 innings, giving up one run (none earned) on seven hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.

Game 1: (18) Pima 5, Glendale 1: The Aztecs took the early lead with four runs over the first three innings as they held off a ninth-inning rally.

Senior and sophomore Dom Felix(Canyon del Oro) drew bases loaded walks that scored Reeves and sophomore Nick Arias(Tucson) in the first inning to put Pima up 2-0.

Reeves was hit by a pitch and later scored on an error in the second inning. Senior hit an RBI single to drive in sophomore Brant Kragel, who led off the inning with a double as Pima went up 4-0.

Reeves added an RBI single in the sixth inning as he finished the game at 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Senior went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a walk while Arias was 2 for 4 with a run. Kragel and Madsen each scored a run. Alvarez picked up the win on the mound as he pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up one run (none earned) on three hits with four strikeouts on 76 pitches.

· Game 2: (18) Pima 9, Glendale 0: The Aztecs took control in the late innings as eight of their runs came in the final three innings.

Gray threw a gem as he pitched seven shutout innings, giving up four hits with four strikeouts and three walks on 82 pitches to gain the win.

The Aztecs went up 1-0 in the fourth inning after freshman Chase Cummingsknocked in Senior with his RBI triple.

Sophomore Jonte Hennesyand Madsen had back-to-back RBI hits in the seventh inning while Arias hit a sacrifice-fly to cap off the inning. Pima led 4-0.

Hennesy hit a sacrifice-fly in the eighth inning and Madsen followed with an RBI triple to make it 6-0.

The Aztecs tacked on three more runs in the ninth inning. Sophomore David Shackelfordsingled and Senior hit an RBI double.

Reeves went 3 for 4 with a run scored while Senior finished 3 for 5 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Cummings and Hennesy each were 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Madsen closed out the game going 2 for 5 with two RBIs and a run.
