Sinclair: What is the rationale of hosting a combined virtual Asia Forum this year?

Sharada: In a pandemic-stricken world online events and webinars have become the norm, but if there are too many it creates viewer/attendee fatigue, referred to as “over zoomed!” Hence, it is more practical to host a combined virtual Asia Forum, instead of hosting three different Forums across Asian countries (India, Japan, and SEA) in a short span of 2-3 months. This way we can pool in our resources to structure a Forum that is insightful and informative.

Sinclair:  Could you explain how digital transformation is accelerating in a post-COVID world?

Sharada: In a post-COVID, VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) world, business strategies and models are undergoing a sea change and flexibility, agility, and innovative approaches are required to succeed during these uncertain times. It is now imperative to leverage technologies for remote operations, collaborate across geographies, and improve project outcomes. The competitive distance between those capable of leveraging digital technology and their less digitally evolved peers has dramatically increased.

Sinclair: What will the presentations focus on?

Sharada: Although this is an Asia Forum, the topics will be of global significance and relevance. The presentations will be about the digital transformation journey across industries during a turbulent period. What affects one, affects all – this is the ripple effect. The agenda will cover contemporary topics, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, digital twins and connected smart machines, convergence of IT/OT/ET, digital workforce culture and so on. Sinclair: What has the COVID-19 taught industry?

Sharada: The past year has taught industry not to take things and situations for granted because disruption can happen faster than we can imagine.  Other important lessons:

• No one is immune, but impact can be uneven - from family to family, company to company, and country to country
• Our priorities can change quickly
• Resets are possible and can be galvanizing
• We need highly engaged employees for faster innovation and higher customer satisfaction
