Mission Statement

Our primary mission is to maintain our County buildings and grounds at the highest level of repair in a cost-effective manner. Our objective is to provide quality service to ensure a safe, accessible, and secure working environment for all County employees and visitors. Management is responsible to put in place an organization and system with clear, measurable indicators and provide training and quality control to ensure that targets are met.

We are the people that make sure everyone is warm in the winter and cool in the summer, that their offices are clean and the buildings and grounds look attractive, and that all the mail and supplies are delivered on time.

Responsibilities

Twenty-eight full-time employees with a variety of skills maintain our facilities, provide mail room service, custodial services, landscaping, general maintenance and mechanical maintenance.

Buildings

Berrien County Building and Grounds Department is responsible for maintaining and operating sixteen buildings throughout Berrien County at ten different locations:

  • 2100 Empire Complex
  • Administration Center
  • Animal Control
  • County Jail
  • Courthouse
  • Drain Division
  • Juvenile Center
  • MSU Extension
  • Sheriff's Department Training Facility
  • South County Courthouse
  • Three Oaks Professional Building
  • Truancy Center

Our staff oversees the maintenance, cleaning and landscaping for:

  • Over 500,000 square feet
  • Operating budget 3.7 million

Capital Improvement Projects

The Building and Grounds Department is also responsible for capital improvement projects including new construction and building alterations.
