2) Why Not Hire an Unlicensed Contractor? RED FLAGS
-ppl who decided not to go with Bradco bc it’s too $
-if you’re a licensed contractor: 7 yrs? Client can come back
-guarantee: we’ve been around for 25 yrs, family business who values their customers
-what to watch out for when the price is so good? do u really understand what product your buying? All jobs are broken up by job types, cabinet person for cabinetry
-in the end a professional is less expensive and forsees from the beginning what needs to be done. Less professional is leaving so many things out of the picture which costs more.
-Important Points:
- get an itemized proposal, don’t get an estimate (ex: kitchen remodel $7000, what does that include)
- don’t hire a contracter with an out of state license plate
- ASK a contractor for license and check it, should have it readily available, it’s illegal for a contractor to work without a license, hotline which encourages to snitch, check contractors state board
- check insurances: 1) workman’s comp: says independent worker but actually brings a worker but it didn’t cover the other person in case of injuries 2) liability
- you’re legally not allowed to take more than 10% or $1000 with the signature of contract of the total
