Chit-Chat Café.

The Chit-Chat Café is an informal gathering in Fellowship Hall of those who want to have lunch and fellowship after the church service. The cost of the meal is nominal; first time visitors are treated to the lunch.

Chit-Chat Café started as a fundraiser for kitchen renovation with one of our members making and selling sandwiches for those attending Adult Education classes after the service. The café remains popular and has continued after the kitchen fundraising was completed.

Today full meals are served with birthday and other celebratory themes as appropriate. The café has become a fun way of visiting with friends and making new ones.

Adult Education Classes

We offer a variety of short-term classes throughout the year. The classes are generally held on Sundays after Chit-Chat Café. The Adult Education classes are meant to add to and enhance the healing journey of the congregational members. We see ourselves as a Healing Community. We encourage people to get involved in healing their souls through therapy and small group process, healing prayer and self-understanding.

Classes have included:

The Spiritual Gifts Workshop . . . originally created by former pastor Paul Smith for Broadway Church, has been taken by thousands of individuals, groups, and churches around the world. The workshop facilitates participants in exploring and identifying their God-given Spiritual Gifts to free and enable participants to live out their spiritual journey and to enhance the life of the community.

The Enneagram . . . a Sufi Muslim oral tradition that was westernized and taught in America by such people as Richard Rohr and Helen Palmer. The tool allows us to find the gifts of our personality type, discover our defense mechanisms, and move toward healing and wholeness.

Six Modes of Healing Prayer . . . this includes several styles of healing prayer that require more and more reliance on the presence, gifts and leading of the Holy Spirit. We practice laying hands on people to pray for the enhanced presence of God to bring love, healing and peace to those experiencing hardships, personal hurts or wounds, discouragement, or to those who want to be touched by God.

Meditation . . . Recently we have incorporated classes in meditation to afford people the chance to experience and practice this particular kind of prayer and practice the presence of God.

Other topics have included Jung and Spirituality , The Artist's Way , as well as a book club discussion group.

Check with the church office for information on when the next class will meet.

Trash and Treasures

What to do with clothing you've outgrown, collectables you are tired of dusting, duplicate small appliances taking up storage space? Send them all to Trash and Treasures, Broadway's annual rummage sale. Even though the sale is traditionally the first week of October, the church collects items throughout the year. We even offer pick-up service, if needed. The money raised helps with general operating expenses. Any items that do not sell are given to charitable organizations.
