Dr. Edgar Tanner was ordained as a Southern Baptist pastor in 1980 and has worked in local churches, in private practice as a psychotherapist and spiritual friend, as a hospice counselor and as a consultant to nonprofit organizations.
He completed his seminary studies at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in the San Francisco Bay area, receiving both his MDiv in 1982 with an emphasis in New Testament and Greek, and his DMin in 1992. In his doctoral project, Experiencing God: A Retreat for Clergy and Psychotherapists , he taught both clergy and psychotherapists meditation skills, transformative deep breathing exercises and consulted with them for over a year as they led others toward health and healing. In 1999 he was awarded an MS in Marriage and Family Therapy from Our Lady of the Lake University, San Antonio/Houston, Texas.

Rachel Birdsell has returned to her Kansas City roots after residing in northwest Arkansas. She has two children, Tyler and Whitney.
After receiving her AS in Emergency Medicine from Arkansas State University in 1992, she held various positions in the medical field, including working as an Emergency Medical Technician. She then decided that she was more comfortable behind a desk than in the field, and moved on to office management.
When she isn't in the office at Broadway Church, she works as a graphic designer, mixed media artist, and is the Kansas City blogger for apartments.com. During her free time, Rachel enjoys photography, playing the piano, and exploring new places.
