Easy Handmade Ornament – Bottle Brush Tree Diorama

Christmas dioramas are so sweet but nothing’s better than be able to hang one of them onto your beautiful christmas tree. Here’s a fun and quick christmas ornament for DIY ornament swaps or just for you to make and enjoy.
Here’s a secret: I stumbled upon this ornament idea by wanting to make a snow globe to go on top of a pinewood derby car. It’s true. But this little diorama christmas ornament is just too cute for words. Even if my snow globe idea didn’t work out and I didn’t beat the children’s pastor for best looking car (I’m bitter) than at least something good came out of it all. Put down that sanding block and derby car kit and get ready to make this miniature diorama Christmas ornament. 
It all started with this plastic ornament that I got at Micheal’s
. Yes, it’s plastic! Which is why it’s still here today to show you considering my daughter’s cat volleyed it off of the Christmas tree the other day. As you can see, the front has already been cut off of it and it’s ready to go.
While I was at Micheal’s, I also picked up some fake plastic snow, fine white glitter, a package of miniature bottle brush trees and a package of mini deer. I found everything except for the ornament in their christmas miniature section.
Let’s just pretend that the lighting on these pictures look similar.
The first step is to cut a round circle out of cardstock to glue onto the bottom of the ornament. You’re going to be using a lot of hot glue and the plastic on this ornament is thin. You can skip this step if you have a low temp glue gun but if you’re using a high heat glue gun, skip at your own risk.
I glued the cardstock into place using white craft glue and then did the rest of the ornament with hot glue.
After your cardstock is in place it’s time to layout how you want it to look. I went with three miniature bottlebrush trees of varying heights and one deer.
Now’s the time to get going with the hot glue. Take your tallest tree and glue it towards the back of the ornament. Before you glue anymore trees, start laying down some fake snow mixed with glitter. The easiest way to do this is by spreading hot glue behind the tree and to the sides of it and then before it cools, sprinkle it with the fake snow / glitter mix and press down lightly to help it attach to the glue.
Once you have a base and the back of your ornament has snow (you can see the back when it turns around and you can’t get back there once the trees are in place) glue in your next tree. Repeat the process of covering the sides of the base of the tree with hot glue and then liberally applying fake snow / glitter mix to the top. 
Once you have all your trees in place and the snow covering their bases, it’s time to attach your deer or any other tiny figurines you bought. Once again, I just used hot glue and covered any areas where you could see glue with the fake snow mixture.
This is easy to make.
At that point you can be done. But I’m not simple. 
I added buffalo check washi tape to the top of the ornament and then filled in the middle of it with more fake snow mixture. I’m from South Texas! Give me snow, even plastic snow, and I go crazy. 
Then to finish the ornament I put white craft glue all around the outside open edge and then dipped it into the snow mixture (because snow!!).
This is one of my favorite ornaments that I have ever made. I still love the Snowman wood slice ornament
and the melted crayon ornaments
are still gorgeous, 2 years later but this one is on the top of my list.
