Life Lately – June Kicked My Tail

Life in June was nuts.  Every year our church hosts vacation bible school the very first week of June. This year’s theme was Game On, which was a lot of fun but it’s always an exhausting week.
We made the baseball frame craft that I shared with you earlier this year and several of the other crafts that I shared in the post, Game On VBS Craft Ideas .  You can also see some of the VBS Game On Decoration Ideas in this other post that I did as well.  My oldest daughter was finally old enough to be a youth helper in the VBS room that I taught in. Not only that but this year our youngest daughter was in my class. It was a great week because I got to see our oldest lead and serve and watch our youngest interact with her friends. Plus being in the same room together meant that I caught this picture of sisterly love, which is a framer.
VBS was a lot of fun, so much fun that the next week I dislocated my knee and spent a few days in bed. Did I mention that two days after that we hosted all of the 13 and up swimmers from the swim team for dinner? Yea. Crazy. Here’s a life-saving tip for anyone ever hosting a ton of teens for dinner: nacho bar.  A few days after the swim team dinner, our oldest two kids served on a mission trip here in our hometown. I know it sounds crazy that a mission trip would be here in our hometown but this is a mission that the youth from our church does every summer. They travel to whatever town in whatever state has had a disaster that year and do construction projects to help people in that town rebuild.  Well, we happen to live in one of the hardest hit areas of Harvey in terms of flooding, so this year the entire mission project with teams from churches all over showed up here in our town and stayed at our church.  They worked so hard all week long. One of my daughters spent the week putting in drywall in a home and another did cleanup and some roofing at a mobile home park.  We were very proud that after this week of extremely hard work, one of our girls still chose to get up very early and compete in a swim meet that she had to qualify to swim. Her poor tired sister had to go with us and spent the morning asleep on the floor. We are blessed with amazing kids who give whatever challenge they’re up against their all, even if it means spending the next day sleeping on the floor.  The next day I got up early and appeared on Houston Life TV show showcasing 5 crafts to keep your kids entertained this summer.  Two of those crafts you can find instructions for here on my site: Watermelon Sponge Prints Toilet Paper Tube Snakes The instructions for pool noodle monsters will be posted this week! It was a lot of fun and I hope I get the chance to go back again. Finally, the cream of the crop for June was that my friend, Lisa, and myself hosted a social media conference in Houston for National Social Media Day. We had an outstanding day, I couldn’t have asked or dreamed of anything better. This was the second conference we hosted at Norris Conference Centers at CityCentre and without a doubt, they are the easiest and best conference/meeting venue in Houston.  The great thing about hosting a conference at Norris Centers in the CityCentre is that there are so many options for lunch or things to do after the conference. Bella Gree n, one of my favorite Houston restaurants, hosted my group for lunch and it was dreamy!
And… I wasn’t going to share this because it proves I’m a dork… but Jay from Texas Humor , one of my favorite websites, came to speak for us at the conference and I got a picture with him. It’s also the only picture that I have with any of the speakers because it totally slipped my mind to ask!  However I wasn’t the only one having a monumental day, while I was at the conference, my kids were staying with their grandparents at the lake. An early morning fishing trip with our youngest and her grandfather landed her the catch of the year! Tomorrow I’m going to pick them up before we race back home and grab the spray paint to make DIY Flag Shirts before 4th of July.  Overall, I’m exhausted. June was non-stop and action-packed.  Don’t worry – great things are coming in July on this site including Christmas in July!  No, I’m not kidding. It’s so hot here, I need some cold thoughts to help me cope so Christmas is coming early!
