2011-2012 Executive Board

Co-Presidents

Andy ZureickAndy Zureick      I’m a Dartmouth ’13 from Detroit, Michigan planning to major in Chemistry. I founded Dartmouth’s chapter of GlobeMed initially because I was interested in a long-term service project in which I developed a strong relationship with the people I helped. I especially wanted this hypothetical project to have clear goals with a visible impact. The GlobeMed model more than fits these criteria, allowing colleges to work hand-in-hand with their partner organizations for many years, and work alongside each other during every summer. I’m incredibly stoked to have many like-minded Dartmouth students on board helping make my dream a reality, and really love the excitement we have built so far. Outside of my GlobeMed life, I’m currently the President of the  Dartmouth Undergraduate Journal of Science , involved in catalysis research in the Chemistry department, an Organic Chemistry Lab TA, and President of the Dartmouth Chemistry Society. I also really love playing piano in various chamber ensembles on campus. After Dartmouth, I’m hoping to pursue a career in medicine and research.

I’m a ’13 at Dartmouth College, majoring in Biology with minors in Public Policy and Ethics. I am extremely thankful for the chance to work alongside such inspiring and passionate people both here at Dartmouth and in the greater GlobeMed network. GlobeMed has given me the opportunity to look at global health from a new perspective – one founded on strong personal relationships and mutual understanding about the challenges we face. I am drawn to GlobeMed’s unique culture of partnership and solidarity, and I am very excited to continue its impact through the Dartmouth chapter.  In addition to GlobeMed, I very much enjoy scientific research, traveling, reading, and spending time with good friends and family.

GlobalhealthU Coordinators

Angela Gauthier Angela Gauthier
I’m currently a junior pre-med majoring in Neuroscience. I joined GlobeMed because it gives us students a chance to use our knowledge, time, and resources to make an impact in the world and in the lives of others less fortunate. I particularly support the group’s organization because it allows us the opportunity to make long-term personal connections with a specific group of people and be directly involved in improving their circumstances. I’m excited to be one of the ghU Coordinators this year because I think it is important to start a dialogue about the poverty and poor health circumstances that surround so many individuals. Through this framework, we can not only create solutions to these problems, but also implement them in a feasible and effective way.

Nikki SachdevaNikki Sachdeva
I’m a ’15 at Dartmouth College from Plano, TX. I plan to double major in Government and Economics and minor in Public Policy. My main interests lie in health economics and public health policy, and I hope to one day increase the accessibility, affordability, and accountability of health care in the developing world. I am extremely drawn to and humbled by GlobeMed’s goals of global health equity and international unity. I love to travel, read, doodle, and have spontaneous dance parties.

I’m a member of the Class of 2014 planning on double majoring in Biology and Anthropology modified with Global Health. I became involved in GlobeMed because I am very passionate about global health. GlobeMed is an organization that has a clear mission and works to help international organizations in a tangible way. It creates lasting partnerships with international organizations and expands our concept of culture and world health. I am also involved in volunteering for Hospice and the Dartmouth Global Leadership Program. I am doing research for the Dartmouth Institute on cardiovascular specialties and care. I love to play guitar, listen to music, hang out, and bike. I’m so excited to raise money for such a valuable organization and have to chance to meet amazing people through GlobeMed!

Melissa An Melissa An     I’m a sophomore at Dartmouth College from St. Louis, Missouri. I plan on majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in the Anthropology of Global Health as well as attending medical school after graduation. Other activities I am involved in on campus include China Care, a group that provides medical care for orphaned children in China, psychiatry research at the Dartmouth Medical School, and working with autistic children within the community. I’m also into music, tennis, traveling, and photography.

GROW Trip Coordinator
Nick JensenNick Jensen    I’m a Dartmouth ’15 from Madison, Wisconsin planning to major in Biology modified with Environmental Studies, with minors in Chemistry and Global Health Anthropology. I joined GlobeMed because I want to address health issues that are affecting real people. The idea that so many people today live without access to adequate medical care or even basic necessities like clean water is terrifying, and anyone in a more stable situation has an obligation to work to correct this deprivation. I have taken two volunteer trips with Tanzania Development Support, partnering with the local NGO UMABU to improve female education in the Musoma area. We built a school dormitory and have started a library/community center. These trips have given me a sense of both the challenges involved in community development and the power that individuals have to effect change, and have fueled my certainty that I want to devote my life to helping people in disadvantaged countries. Besides international development, I am passionate about food/agricultural sustainability and the environment in general. Activities I enjoy include telling bad jokes, traveling, reading, writing short stories and hiking. I play for Dartmouth’s quiz bowl and ultimate teams.

I am a ’14 planning on majoring in Biomedical Engineering.  I was initially attracted to GlobalMed because of its unique style of engaging its members in direct service.  It has been a great experience and I look forward to seeing our chapter grow.  Besides being part of an awesome E-board, I’m a member of the Dartmouth College fencing team and the Dartmouth EMS.  When I am alone, I enjoy reading books in front of a fire with hot chocolate.

Katelyn WongKatelyn Wong
I am a ’15 from Connecticut. Although I am undecided about my major, I am pre-med and interested in taking classes in the anthropology and sociology departments. One of the reasons that I joined GlobeMed is that I am really interested in learning more about global health and the interaction between cultures and medicine. After reading Anne Fadiman’s  The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down , a book chronicling the clash between Hmong culture and western medicine, I knew I wanted to learn more about how a culture’s values and issues can impact medical care. In my free time, I love to swim, run, and eat/cook food.

MingZuo Ming Koh
Just call me Ming; I’m a freshman and prospective major in Economics and Government at Dartmouth College. I’m from Singapore, and having traveled extensively throughout Southeast Asia, the realization that health standards are so deplorable in many parts of the region that I have come to love impelled me to act. That is why I joined GlobeMed. In addition, having previously worked on projects that sought to raise awareness for the refugees along the Thai-Burmese border, the opportunity to work with the Kachin Women’s Association of Thailand through GlobeMed was one that I simply could not pass up. In my free time I enjoy watching and playing soccer (it’s called football where I’m from, but I’ll let it slide this once), and my favorite team is Liverpool. I also like going to the movies, watching plays, hanging out with friends, and reading.

Yesha Yesha Maniar
I’m a sophomore at Dartmouth College, and I am pre-med, majoring in Government. I became involved in GlobeMed because I am really interested in global health, specifically maternal and child health, which is the focus of our partner organization KWAT. On campus, I am involved in Raaz (South Asian Dance Group), Dartmouth Coalition on Global Health and Social Equity, Dartmouth Model United Nations and I am also a research assistant for a professor at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. The research I am participating in is public health policy regarding child health in the U.S. I want to eventually become a pediatrician and work in the global health field. I am really excited to be part of GlobeMed this year!

I’m a 15 at Dartmouth College, currently a freshman on the premed track with a French and Public Policy minor. I’m from Long Island, New York but am originally from Afghanistan. Having come from a developing country, I understand the need for organizations like GlobeMed. I mainly got interested in GlobeMed because of their unique approach to problems in health care. Rather than simply offer what they think is needed, GlobeMed allows the partners to voice their needs and opinions and responds accordingly to that. This model of partnership has worked extremely well and I’m certain the success will be repeated here at Dartmouth! I hope that one day, everyone will have ready and available access to adequate health care, something I see as a right and not a privilege. In my free time, I love reading, watching Harry Potter on repeat and playing video games. I am addicted to milk and number one on my bucket list is to learn a language from every continent.

Director of Individual Giving

I’m a Dartmouth ’14 from Arlington, Virginia. I’m a premed majoring in neuroscience with a minor in anthropology. On campus, I’m very involved with South Asian dancing, pre-health and global health organizations, and volunteering at the local medical center. During my free time, I usually like to curl up with a good book or watch a movie. On the occasion that I’m feeling a little more energetic, I enjoy playing tennis and badminton with friends! GlobeMed is an organization that I am passionate about, not only because of the active role it takes in providing long-term solutions to poor healthcare, but also because of its solid commitment to educating its members about the culture, geography and background of their international partners. Moreover, because many of my dad’s relatives have suffered from the ethnic conflict in Burma, our chapter’s focus on helping Burmese women and children has made both GlobeMed and its cause particularly close to my heart.
