Aug 28: More English Lessons

Today we continued our English lessons with KWAT’s interns.

In the morning, we played “Would you rather?” After starting out with easy choices like, “Would you rather play football or badminton?” the interns got creative and made up questions like, “Would you rather love Anna or a monkey?”

We taught the interns more about asking questions, including inverting words to change a statement into a question and using question words like “what” and “how.” Then we played a “20 Questions” style game where a person thought of a vocabulary word and everyone else asked questions to figure out what it was. The interns quickly caught on and got excited about figuring out the mystery word.

We also taught the interns how to use contractions like “don’t,” “I’ll” and “we’re” and discussed the difference between formal and informal English.

In the afternoon, we watched scenes from “Love Actually” with the interns and went over key conversational phrases and new vocabulary.

After class, we went out to the night bazaar and had a great (but spicy) dinner at Strawberry Fields restaurant. The staff were very nice and gave us a free papaya salad to try. Julia and Katharine used their haggling skills to buy sunglasses and a backpack, respectively.
