Staff Meeting 2/18/13

balloonsAt our Valentines Day Campaign, we raised $404 for KWAT!  We’re now up to $7,627, with $1,805 remaining for our project goal! We recently transferred $6000 to KWAT! During the meeting, we brainstormed ideas on how to better run the balloon campaign next year and we came up with several great ideas including a possible price change and name writing on balloons.

Our Dinner and Documentary Event is coming up soon!  Monday, February 25 from 6-8pm in Rocky 002.  We’ll be showing  Burma VJ: Reporting from a Closed Country. This will be catered by the Orient.

We also finalized our plans for WDSJ and snapped a few photographs. “The World Needs More…”

Finally, we spent the rest of the meeting skyping with Mai! After a series of technical issues (that were quickly resolved), GlobeMed members new and old were able to speak with Mai about experiences. Mai shared a particularly heart-wrenching story about a 23 day old baby whose mother was killed when running away from the Burmese army. The baby was dropped and consequently spent two days in the forest alone. Two days later,  his father was able to come back without being killed and rescue the badly burned baby. The baby spent three months in a clinic under the attention of nurses. During that time, the baby was unable to sleep except when hugged by a nurse. Fortunately, the baby is now doing well under the care of his adoptive family. The GlobeMed meeting ended with goodbyes to Mai.
