Day 1: Adventures in Recovering from Jet-Lag

Mango curry

From the staple place…

We made it!

And no one even had a terribly traumatic flight experience. Chicaiza was first on the scene, arriving at our guest house around 9 am and promptly face-planting into his bed and not moving until Ritika and I got there around 2:30 pm. The three of us had a very jet-lagged dinner at the first restaurant we stumbled into, which may not have been the best choice as there was some form of dead cockroach in the jar with the chili pepper flakes. But we survived. Hoon showed up around 11 pm, long after the rest of us had passed out.

Today was mainly spent exploring the neighborhood and its many gift shops and art stores. It was a good way to adjust to living in a city where the roads are narrow and busy and the cars and mopeds come from the opposite direction you would expect. We are still working on getting used to the humidity. The highlight of the afternoon was picking up some ice cold Cokes from a pharmacy (clearly we are doing very exciting things).

We ate dinner at the breakfast place last year’s GROW team raved about, and the food was exceptional except for the minor detail that Ritika found a staple in her fried red curry rice. Thanks for the suggestion, guys.

After spending today wandering and getting settled in, we are now (somewhat) well-rested and ready to start working with KWAT tomorrow morning!
