Austria witnessed a total of 8.23 million overnight stays in its accommodation establishments, in May 2023 – a remarkable 10.3 percent surge compared to the pre-Coronavirus level recorded in May 2019, surpassed only by May 2018’s 8.51 million overnight stays. The significant increase is certainly due to the fact that this year three extended weekends were available for short vacations, while last year only Ascension Day fell on a Thursday.
