Hotel Arts Barcelona, the architectural icon of the city, has unveiled the next phase of its creative partnership with Madrid’s art gallery WE COLLECT – a new art piece by an up-and-coming Spanish artist Ana Pavón specially created for the hotel’s 30th-floor Arts Suite by WE COLLECT.
An art initiative that aims to promote young emerging creatives and give more established artists a platform to reach a wider audience, Arts Suite by WE COLLECT is a living space dedicated to showcasing contemporary art, with a new artist given a carte blanche to create a site-specific piece every three months.
The current installation by Ana Pavón, titled “Coín,” addresses the plastic expression of the concept of the hidden as a method of seduction, with the aim of creating a sort of eroticism of the painting, drawing the attention of the eye to the surface of the canvas.
The impossibility of naming the hidden and the incapacity to define what we are seeing demands a closer look. The question itself, as well as the possibilities it offers, emerge as the true content of the work. The artist aims to create a space that is more suggestive rather than descriptive, the ideal place for fiction, inviting the perceiver to a more sensory experience rather than an interpretative one. Consequently, constructing a pictorial space that oscillates between the scarcely granted and the highly promised.
