Iberia ground services staff are set to proceed with planned strikes, causing disruptions from 5th to 8th of January across 28 airports where Spain ‘s flag carrier operates.
This includes major hubs like Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat, impacting 444 flights from Iberia, Iberia Express, and Air Nostrum during the Three Kings’ holiday period.
The strikes stem from disputes over working conditions and employee rights, particularly concerns about outsourcing workers to other companies. Passengers affected by cancellations will receive alternative flight options.
The effects could extend beyond Iberia, potentially impacting flights with other airlines in the IAG group, such as British Airways, Level, Aer Lingus, and Vueling.
In a parallel development, Alicante-Elche airport faces its own challenges, with Ilunion Seguridad employees planning strikes from 1st to 14th January. The security staff’s two-hour daily walkouts from 8:45-9:45 am and 6-7 pm will disrupt security controls and baggage handling, impacting airport operations during these periods.
These strikes reflect ongoing tensions over working conditions and compensation within the aviation industry, potentially causing considerable inconvenience to travelers during this period.
