Adult Learning

At Congregation Etz Chayim, we view adult learning as a stepping stone to deeper knowledge and understanding of the rich Jewish tradition. We offer diverse intellectual, creative and spiritual programming to strengthen connections among congregants and help us integrate Judaism into our lives. Our adult learning opportunities are accessible to participants who come with a variety of Jewish experiences, backgrounds and education. What we learn is determined by the interests and passions of our members, Rabbi and Director of Learning.

We offer regular weekly Shabbat morning Torah Study and a wide range of classes, lectures, workshops and retreats depending on the season and time of year. For more information, check our website calendar and/or contact our Director of Learning, Abra Greenspan .

Regular Programming

Weekly Torah Study We have Torah Study sessions on Saturday mornings.  Sessions are led by our rabbi and once a month by a member of the congregation. Torah Study sessions are drop-in and open to everyone looking for a deeper understanding of Torah. No Hebrew skills or Torah study experience are required. Torah Study is offered in-person and online. For more information, contact Abra.

Zooming the Talmud
At the completion of the reading of a tractate of the Talmud, it is customary to hold a Hadran session. Join Rabbi Emeritus Ari Cartun for periodic virtual sessions discussing the highlights  of the Talmud.

ETZ Talks Join us for this series of engaging scholarship on Jewish questions and topics that Etzniks are curious about exploring. Some of the topics we've explored are Jewish Amulets, American Jews and American Slavery, the Sephardic Holocaust, Hidden Secrets of the Haggadah, Jews of the Arabian Peninsula, Jews and Chocolate and much more.

Etznik Talks We let our members be the leaders for this wide-ranging series of informal, but in-depth talks. Hear members of the Etz community discuss the things that they're passionate about. Past Talks have covered cryptography, the Grateful Dead, housing policy, Eurovision and Israeli politics, quilt-making, Yiddish song and dance, Doing the AIDS Lifecycle Ride, Flying, and much more.
