Purim 2024

Mishloach Manot: Hawai'i

With Purim just around the corner, we invite you to join the Etz Community in fulfilling the mitzvah of Mishloach Manot.

Each year, Etz Chayim delivers over 330 Mishloach Manot bags to our members and our larger community of teachers and staff. Each recipient gets a bag chock full of goodies, with an accompanying scroll that can include your name, if you have sponsored the delivery of that bag.

This year’s theme is Hawai’i. Bags will include hamantashen; treats inspired by classic Hawaiian foods, including all our favorite fruits and nuts; and something chocolate because duh. But no Spam – sorry about that Spam fans! The tradition includes contributions to charity, so 10% of funds after expenses will be sent to the Hawai'i Community Foundation - Maui Strong Fund.

There are 4 ways for you to help:

Sponsorship - Deadline has passed.

Bag Assembly Volunteers - Deadline has passed.

Delivery Volunteers - Deadline has passed.

Special Delivery Instructions - Deadline has passed.

Thank you for your support and enthusiasm for Mishloach Manot! Bags will be delivered by March 23.

Purim Shpiel and Celebration

Saturday, March 23, 7:00 pmYou won't want to miss the world premiere of "The Purim Shpiel That Goes Wrong"! It's an indoor beach party! Put on something fun--a wild shirt, a ballgown, a colorful wig, an old uniform, a full costume--and get ready for a musical production written and performed by Etzniks that will have you falling out of your seats with laughter.

We'll start with cocktails, mocktails, and vegetarian charcuterie. After the show, there will be a buffet of homemade hamantaschen that will tantalize your tastebuds.

And then the dance floor will open! Not sure if you remember how to dance? No worries, Brianna Wingard will be back teaching us no-partner dances such as the Cupid Shuffle, the Hustle, and more. Don't like to dance? No problem. You can stay in the library with the sweets.

Please make a reservation  here . We need volunteers to bring this vision into reality. You can sign up on the reservation form. Let's welcome a little joy into our lives together.

NextGen 4th Annual Battle of the Hamantashen
After the Purim Shpiel, ~8:00 pm

For folks in their 20s and 30s, come for a special oneg in classroom 12 (past Chaim's office). Bring at least a dozen of your favorite hamantashen, homemade or store-bought. Join us even if you can't bring cookies. We'll all vote on (1) most delicious and (2) most unique hamantashen while enjoying them all and having a cocktail (the King's Ring). Winners of each category will take home a baby sunflower plant! We will have an indoor and an outdoor eating space.
