FAQ

Do I need to be fit to start CrossFit?

No! CrossFit is a means to becoming fit! Our program is designed to be modifiable for any person at any fitness level.

Will CrossFit make me big and bulky?

The high intensity, constantly varied nature of CrossFit will help you build lean, efficient muscle and drop body fat. If you’re following a balanced diet, you will not get bulky. It takes hours of training and an excess of food to build bulky muscles.

Why is it so expensive?

Unlike a regular gym membership, CrossFit is like having a personal trainer everyday. The level of quality instruction and programming coupled with access to the supportive community make the monthly rate a steal. Need further convincing? Your membership dues here are less than grabbing lunch at Chipotle Monday through Friday. A personal trainer would cost up to $70/hour!

Isn’t CrossFit dangerous?

CrossFit, like any sport, can be dangerous. Poor coaches, overtraining, and athlete negligence can lead to injury. At Flatirons CrossFit, we take the safety of each athlete seriously. By making sure everyone is moving properly and taking care of their active bodies, and classes are run in an organized and safe manner, we have an excellent, low incident record.

What is functional fitness?

Movement is a part of our everyday lives. We carry, squat, jump, lift, and pull without thinking anything of it. CrossFit uses movements designed to strengthen our movement patterns in a way that transfers to our daily lives. We get you moving well inside the gym so that you can move well outside the gym.

Do you have punchcards or limited memberships?

Here at Flatirons, we want every athlete to reach their potential, and our programs are designed to do that. By only coming once in a while, we won’t be fully able to help you reach your goals.

Does your facility have showers?

Yep! Just bring your own towel.

Is weightlifting dangerous?

Olympic weightlifting is often used by athletes in other sports to prevent injury as it has a high benefit and low risk of injury. In fact, weightlifting has the lowest injury rate of many sports according to the article “Relative Safety of Weightlifting and Weight Training” published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research.

Can I bring my own programming?

We don’t generally allow or recommend programs that weren’t written specifically for an athlete. We prefer to have the ability to make adjustments to programs we have written depending on the athlete’s skills, strengths, weaknesses, and progress. If you have a program you’d like to follow, bring it in for review by our head coach. He will either approve or deny the request. Remember, programs professionally written for you will yield the best results.

Are there prerequisites for the weightlifting program?

Yes. If you have no experience with the olympic lifts, we require you to take 3-5 private sessions as the lifts are complex to learn for the first time, and we want you to learn them right. You may have some trouble with the lifts if you have severe shoulder or hip mobility problems. Come in for a free consultation, and we will help you decide if weightlifting is right for you.

What is the difference between weightlifting and power lifting?

The aim of power lifting is to training the squat, bench press, and deadlift. The aim of olympic weightlifting is the train the snatch and the clean and jerk.
