Who designs these helmets? Most likely men who don't think twice about their hair. I've often wondered, why haven't those hip, smart, female cyclist/biker designers created a bike helmet that is designed not to squash your hair?! I know about the 600 dollar collar that blows up like an air bag when you crash. That is awesome and the two women who invented it are brilliant, but the price doesn't fit most of our budgets.

I'm waiting for the 110-150 dollar bike helmet that protects my brain and my hair. Hello hipster girl industrial designers...do you hear me?

First, I am sorry to hear about your accident. Second, I am glad to hear that you are okay. Now, the author of this post did not in any shape, way, or form insinuate that safety is not a priority. She is merely asking for the helmets to be made for women who have issues with their hair. I am fully aware, as I think we all are, that riding is not a fashion statement. No one here has made that assertion, however, why should I look like crap when I arrive at my destination? For people like me who have LONG, CURLY, and LOTS of hair, often times there is absolutely no way to get the knots out than by taking a hot shower and using half of the conditioner bottle. We are all made differently, and as such, we all have different preferences. I love riding just like anyone in this forum, why should I sacrifice the thing I love, for people like you who say "who cares." Well, I care. And so do many other women who struggle with their hair during the ride and after.

I'm with you safety first and my hair who cares.
It's about riding not what you look like while riding that counts.

..being momentarily affected, perhaps you really don't need to be riding.
Proper safety gear is designed to save you from serious injury or death, if possible. In the overall scheme of things, your hairstyle shouldn't be of any significant concern. Riding is not a fashion show. When you get to your destination you can do any number of things to brush and style your hair back into how you want it to look.
3-1/2 weeks ago I was saved from serious injury when a drunk driver stopped in front of me with no warning. I hit them, flying off my RZ350, spearing the car with the front/top of my head (helmet). I'm having issues with my shoulder, a possible rotator cuff tear, but I didn't have so much as even a headache afterward. I was wearing a very high quality full face helmet.
To properly protect you, your helmet must fit very tight, so that if you shake your head forcefully, it should not slip one iota. The last thing you should be concerned about is that you'll TEMPORARILY have your hair smashed down against your head. So what! Get your priorities straight.
