First bike for a big girl

by Karina(Arlington, VA)

Hopefully, less big as time goes on, though. But, because I am big now (250) and it will take a while to be less big (or if heaven forbid, I backslide), I'm pretty sure I need more than a 250 if I want to do anything more than toodle around the streets.

I'm looking at things like the V-Star 650...something with that look..I will NOT take any of the bikes that look like a Transformer caught in mid transform AND in heat. I also will not own (for personal, possibly irrational, reasons) a Harley. Other than that I'm wide open.

Aside from the weight issue, while I'm 5'8", I only have a 28" inseam and I would prefer to flatfoot (or close to it).

Any thoughts?

Thanks!!

short inseam bikes
by: ree

As you know the inseam is only part of the issue if you are heavy - thighs take up space .. a skinny 28 inseam will take a higher bike. I do not have skinny thighs

My new baby is a Suzie 2003 1400 intruder I am flat footed - this is a bike that is more "me". My first bikes had a slight rake and so does this. Many people have turned it into a chopper

a bike for a big girl

This one is for Karina in VA and all the big girs out there. Be proud of who you are.Sounds to me you are a can do gal or you wouldn't be out there playing in the traffic. I used to weigh in at almost 300 lbs. It wasn't easy but I lost the weight and now I weigh Bout 150 lbs.Hey! This supposed to be about motorcycles and it is... I wanted to riide so bad, but I felt like I was just too heavy, OK fat. Sooo... I started to lose that weight that was costing me my self respect and keeping me from what I wanted to do and that was to ride a motorcycle. Heck! I didn't even know how to ride, but I knew I knew I wanted to.When I lost enough II bought a little 250 ?Poor little thing was loaded down. The bike really gave me a lot of incentive to lose more weight and witht the help of my bike and weight watchers I lost half of my body weight. My reward was better health, better self image and a brand new bike, one that was bigger than me..

first bike for a big girl

Hey - WELCOME to the club of riding! I'm a big girl too and I love my Suzuki 800 C-50/Volusia. I also have short legs...ugh...but this bike fits me really well. You'll notice a lot of shorter men riding the same bike. I have a 2002, but the new ones are pretty too.

Enjoy the ride......no matter what you end up with - just keep on riding.

look at the Yamaha
by: shelly

You might look at the Yamaha v-star 900, its a nice handling, good looking and low riding bike. Also its very affordable and can be found on the secondary market. Good luck!
