I have unruly curls. Air-drying my hair leaves it looking as if I walked out of a cave and not a shower. My hair is neither wavy, nor tightly curled. No matter what, it looks frizzy. I can only comb it wet. And any products I attempt either taint my helmet or leave me wanting to wash it more-- like, everyday; washing my hair everyday is a disaster. Sometimes I use a light touch of jojoba oil to the tips of my hair to prevent wind splitting consequences.


I just bought a moto three weeks ago (and graduated from the MSF course with an endorsement five weeks past) so I'm not quite sure what exactly to recommend for helmet hair.

Personally, wearing a helmet tames my hair and it looks good after a short ride.

But . . . I don't wear a helmet when I camp(sometimes days of ultralight backpacking), I have found that bringing a small bottle of leave-in conditioning spray (preferably Giovanni or Wen products) allows for combing manageability and gives my type of hair an 'Umph'. My hairstylist also recommends using a 5 minute leave-in treatment every two-weeks to keep my hair healthy. Interestingly, I've noticed that this has tamed the frizz and dryness thus better manageability= better texture and life.

Also, my hair is neither long enough to strap into the beautiful leather hair gloves I have seen, nor short enough to tuck under a helmet or gear. It is exposed to wind everyday since I bought my Vstrom650. I find that wearing braided pigtails helps with keeping curls intact and wearing a helmet sleeve helps with the hair frizz and protects the helmet.
