I am a hairdresser and helmet hair use to drive me crazy, I tried everything then I figured out that if I part my hair on the opposite side of where I normally wear it then fluff it when I take the helmet off, I get the body back and it doesn't look so flat. Another thing that worked for me was letting my layers grow out so that the top layer lays just below the bottom of the helmet.
When I ride without a helmet, I use a headband and push my bangs underneath in the opposite directions, and pull the back of my hair over the band, and just keep the band on when not riding since it is time consuming, but my hair still looks good if I do decide to take the band off.

Some of you seem to think I'm trying to tell you what to do. That's not my intention. I just take care of the bikers after they smash their heads in, once they are stuck on ventilators and can't make any decisions anymore. Then I just wish for them that they would have made a better one.

Personally, I wear a full helmet, but will be getting an open face shortly. Before I started to ride, I was critical too of riders not wearing protective gear. After riding awhile, I ride without an armored jacket when it's hot. CA requires helmets. I probably will always wear some type of helmet, even in states that don't require one, but that is my choice. I don't believe anyone should be forced to wear or not wear something. It is called individual freedom to choose and it is supposed to be what this country is about. Criticizing someone for their choice and making laws to "protect" them, is wrong. The law that should be on the books is one that requires anyone that wishes to obtain ANY kind of motor vehicle license to also be required to test their knowledge of safely driving with motorcyclists on the road!

I work at a hospital, so I get to see the results of motorcycle accidents. The broken bones can sometimes be screwed and glued back together, but there is no cure for brain damage. Not wearing a helmet is the single greatest reason for bikers sustaining brain damage. What a waste!

I, too, am a hairdresser and have found flipping your part works. I also exercise my right to not wear a helmet as well, and I am often chastised for it. However, there is a feeling about your hair being free to fly in the wind that simply cannot be accomplished within the confines of a helmet. If you choose to wear one, then that is fabulous. If you choose not to, then that is also fabulous. Those of us who occasionally let our heads be free are well aware of the dangers involved, and although the concern is appreciated, there is no need to tell us about how you feel about our decisions. They are ours. When I have a passenger, they always wear one, and so do I, but if I am by myself, and I want to, I will let my hair be free to catch little flying things as it will. Dangers reside in many places, and yet we take them everyday. Ride safe :)

Statistics have shown that most fatal accidents occur within city limits, NOT on highways. It is within city limits where most traffic occurs and where cars pull out in front of you because drivers don't see you.
Yet still, many riders won't wear a helmet within city limits...

Hi Bridgett,
Thank you for your concern, However I do live in a state where it is legal to ride without a helmet, and yes...many people here do ride without one.
I for the most part do wear a helmet, always when highway riding. But on occasion I do exercise my right to ride without a helmet in the city.
Thanks again,
Elaine

The parting the hair on the opposite side.
BAD idea riding without a helmet! Do people still do that? I know I'm opening a can of worms here, but I think stats show most fatalities are from head injuries, why increase the risk?
Just my honest opinion, I want you all to be SAFE and ride for many happy, healthy years!
Bridgett
