Staying Motivated And Avoiding Coupon Burnout

By ERIN TURNER

Have you hit burn out in your couponing?  Does the thought of clipping another coupon or scanning another app for the best deals of the week, completely cause you to have a melt down?  Don’t feel bad…it’s totally normal!  Every couponer goes through these periods of burn out.  But what determines whether you continue or whether you fizzle completely out on couponing has to do with how you approach your burn-out period.

I was recently browsing my favorite coupon and deal site, Krazy Coupon Lady with a real lack of motivation for couponing.   I kept looking at the deals and coupon match-ups for the week knowing that I should be getting things prepped and ready to hit the stores, but I had “lost the love” for it!  Then I scrolled down to see an entire blog post dedicated to Coupon Burn-Out!  Wow, it made me realize I wasn’t alone in my feelings of burn-out and it gave me a boost in knowing that I can still reclaim my motivation after some time away and I learned some tips to help while I took a break.

Erin_Turner_Extreme_Versus_Super_Couponing This week I decided to share with you this blog post so if you have reached burn out you too will have some guidance in overcoming it OR for you to tuck away for future reference when you hit the Coupon Wall of Burn-Out!

With summer here, it means no school for my boys and lots of farming chores, which gives me a nice chance to take a break from couponing.   It doesn’t mean I’m going to miss out on any great deals (because remember the sales cycle around every 3-4 months) or that I’m going to be any less frugal rather it’s a chance to catch my breath, use up some of my stocked up items, make lists of items I need to replenish and re-organize my binder without any pressure.  This way I’ll be refreshed and ready to conquer the couponing world again.

Here’s the post that gave me hope and motivation to acknowledge my burn-out and gave me permission to chill out for a little while!  I hope it helps any of you who have been hard at it and are facing Coupon Exhaustion!  Rest, relax and reclaim your couponing enthusiasm this summer.  And don’t worry…the deals will still be waiting for you!!

From Krazy Coupon Lady.Com:

It happened. You’ve been bitten by the couponing bug and everywhere you turn, there’s a deal calling your name! You share your excitement with friends and family, develop a hefty bank of coupons, and start a magnificent stockpile. Basically, couponing is the most addicting thing you’ve found since chocolate! Fast forward six months and you’re groaning when you see a sales paper because you’ve become overwhelmed and disorganized and don’t quite know how to get back on track. You feel guilty because you know you should be excited about these deals, but the motivation just isn’t there. Well, there’s hope for you! Here are some helpful tips that always help me.

1. Avoid the word “coupon” for 48 hours

I know how krazy that seems, but have you tried it? Does your spouse get tired of hearing about the dish detergent you just got for free or the hundreds of rolls of toilet paper you have in your stockpile? Do you go to bed thinking about the deals that KCL will publish tomorrow? All of these things cause us to be overwhelmed, and when we get overwhelmed, the fun disappears! Take the challenge and go on a coupon diet for 48 hours! You might be surprised at how motivated you are when you resume your shopping!    Read More
