Instructions:

Cut up the lamp shade to expose the top ring.

This is what you should be left with:

Lay out your mosaic tile sheets. Cut the mesh to the height you desire for your lamp shade. The lamp shade I created was small, therefore I only needed a 6 inch height to cover the lamp bulb.

Lay two sheets of the tiles side by side and stitch the two sheets together at the seam from the mesh side.

Wrap the tile sheet around the lamp shade top ring and trim the excess tiles off.

Stitch the open ends together. I found it easiest to slip a paper towel roll into the center to support all the tiles while stitching it.

Stitch the lamp shade ring to the top of the mosaic tile tube. Loop the thread through the tile mesh and the lamp shade ring around the entire circumference.

Your lamp shade should look something like this:

Attach your lamp shade to the lamp and admire!

…and lights on. I love the shadows cast by the tile lampshade.

Never thought to match a backsplash. Cool idea!

Deb, I haven’t, but you would want the shade to be a little farther from the bulb. The lampshade may end up getting too heavy with a larger diameter shade as well.

I love this idea! It looks fantastic and very expensive. I’d love to use it on my lamps in my family room. The current shades definitely need replacing, but I haven’t seen any I really like.

My concern is that my lamps are large and I use 13W CFL (60 W equivalent) in them. The lampshade you show looks fairly small & you stated that you only use a 25W bulb in it. Have you tried this with larger shades and higher wattage bulbs at this point? Thanks!

What a great idea for the pendants to match the backsplash. This project just keeps getting more and more exciting.

Original lampshade looks like it has a larger diameter at the bottom but finished lampshade is all one diameter from top to bottom. How did you get it all the same diameter?

Never mind, I see that you didn’t use the entire lampshade only the upper ring.

It’s held up for two years and I leave this little lamp on all night. I use a 25 watt clear bulb, so it doesn’t get too hot.
