Screen Porch Fall Decorating

Fall Accessories for the Screen Porch | Pretty Handy Girl

This fall I’ve spent a lot more time on our screen porch.  It all started with a new ceiling fan . We call it the trickle down effect in our house. You bring something new, nice and beautiful into a room and all of the sudden everything else looks old, dated and ugly. I often find myself wanting to give the whole room a new look. It’s a true “ If You Give a Blogger a Cookie ” problem.

Then I built a folding writing desk  so I could work outside.  Now my family knows I’m most likely on the porch when they can’t find me in the house.

Because Autumn had arrived, I decided to add some new colorful accents to the existing blue and white palette. A  Target herringbone throw and feather pillow are a cozy invitation to kick up your feet and relax.

I rolled up the painted bamboo rug and replaced it with a simple sisal rug.

All the new pillows are from Target:

To play up the colorful accents, I filled a wooden vessel with colorful antique croquet balls.

This is definitely the spot to sit while the weather is still warm.

Unfortunately, we’re supposed to get an Arctic blast next week. You know I’m spending as much time this weekend soaking up the last of our North Carolina warm weather.

I hope your weather continues to be nice and you are enjoying being outside.

Greetings from Perth, Western Australia…!
I have only just found your blog this morning and I’m already dying to get outdoors and survey my back garden porch….! I’ve been thinking of screening it for quite some time but at the moment we’re in the throws of WINTER so I guess I’ll be waiting a bit longer……never mind, come September the spring weather will return. Your porch looks VERY inviting…:)
Now I’m going to browse through all your other projects for inspiration. May I just add that I’m a 75 year old Great-grandmother, living alone, who has ALWAYS been able to “do-it-myself” (well, 80% of the time anyway…) and I always enjoy seeing what other women do…..! Cheers, Nadia in Perth

In reply to Kathie .

Kathie, sadly the pollen is an issue in the spring. After the pollen has stopped falling we usually hose off and clean the porch. In between my husband will blow it off with a leaf blower. But, yes, there is a month when we can’t use it.

Shelly, LOL. Thank goodness I don’t because that would be a shocker. Especially when I’m still in my PJs.

In reply to Kim @ Cozinest .

Thanks 😉 My boys like them too, but I find them scattered all over the porch.

I absolutely love the croquet balls! I just may have to use this idea on my porch. Beautiful space!

I had not seen your porch before. I want to move in!! Such an inviting space. I wouldn’t be surprised if you said that you often walk out in the morning to find several of your friends already enjoying their morning cup of coffee there. Good think about that is that they would have already made the coffee. 🙂

Looks like a great place to be and it also makes me want a screened in porch. Beautiful! Did you folks make the porch?
