Oyamel Cocina Mexicana Launches A New Late Night Dining Menu  

Washington, D.C. (April 9, 2014) – James Beard Award-winning Chef José Andrés, with partner Rob Wilder, are pleased to announce the launch of new late night hours and special menu at Oyamel Cocina Mexicana beginning Thursday, April 10 th . Oyamel’s Head Chef Colin King will be preparing tasty offerings for night owls, which can be enjoyed at the bar Sunday through Wednesday from 10 PM to 12 AM, and from Thursday through Saturday from 11 PM to 2 AM.  The menu will feature cold and hot small plates inspired by antojitos, as well as tacos, the classic street food of Mexico, which will all be priced from $6 to $13.50.

Located in the heart of Penn Quarter, Oyamel is a perfect destination to grab a bite to eat and drinks after a game at the Verizon Center or a show at the Shakespeare Theater Company. A sampling of the Late Night Menu begins with cold and hot antojitos such as  Guacamole al Tomatillo con Queso Fresco with green tomatillos, Serrano peppers, crumbled queso fresco and served with tortilla chips;  Ceviche Estilo Cuilicán  with marinated bass, Serrano, lime, onion, cilantro, tomatillos and house-made salsa pequín;  Encurditos , a variety of pickled vegetables with tomatillo, queso cotija, and chile pequín;  Pozole Rojo , a traditional Mexican soup with hominy, fresh pork, guajillo chiles and served with a garnish of onion, lettuce and sliced radish;  Papas Al Mole,  potato fries in a mole poblano sauce of almonds, chiles, a touch of chocolate and topped with Mexican cream and queso fresco,  as well as  Albondigas Enchipotladas con Queso Doble Crema, meatballs in chipotle sauce with crumbled ‘double cream’ cheese and cilantro.

Guests will also be able to order Oyamel’s handmade tacos, such as  Carnitas Con Salsa De Tomatillo, with confit of baby pig, green tomatillo sauce, pork rinds, onions and cilantro;  Taco de Pescado Baja California  with seared Mahi Mahi, fresh cabbage, house-made mayo, pickled ancho chiles and onions, and the  Cochinita Pibil con Cebolla en Escabeche  with Yucatan-style pit barbecued Shenandoah Valley pork, Mexican sour orange and pickled red onion. 

For the perfect pairing with a late night bites, Oyamel’s specialty cocktails are priced from $7-$14 and include the  Oyamel Margarita with Milargro blanco, triple sec, fresh lime juice and ‘salt air’; the  Flaco Margarita  with orange-infused tequila, fresh lime, grapefruit bitters and a splash of soda water; the  Passion Fruit Fizz  with passion fruit-infused vodka, lemon and a splash of soda water, and the  Choke Artist  with barrel-aged Herradura silver tequila, cynar, Dolin’s Vermouth Rouge, sherry and peach bitters.   In addition to these cocktails, the late night menu will offer Dos Equis Lager and Dos Equis Amber for $6 each, or $25 for a bucket of five beers to share with friends.
