Llegamos a la primera mitad de la temporada 2011. se hace una pausa para realizar el juego de las estrellas. Vamos a realizar lo que a mi juicio y entendimiento ha sido lo mas resaltante de esta primera mitad en las grandes Ligas.

En primer lugar , la gran sorpresa de los Indios de Cleveland, ocupando la primera posición de la tabla casi durante todo el trayecto en la división central de la Liga Americana. Asdrubal Cabrera cumpliendo una temporada de ensueño con los Indios, equipo balanceado,desde ya son contendientes a la post temporada.

Philadelfia en el primer lugar de la division este de la LN como se tenia previsto. Cumplimiento de las expectativas con los principales lanzadores abridores de los Filis. Entre Roy Halladay, Cole Hamels y Cliff Lee tienen 30 victorias, 13 derrotas, y 11 juegos completos. El mejor record de la temporada, jugando para .626 de porcentaje a 3,5 juegos sobre Atlanta. la organizacion tiene 18 temporadas terminando con record de mas derrotas que victorias, la peor racha en Las grandes Ligas y en cualquier deporte en los estados unidos. han sido dueños del ultimo puesto de la division en los últimos cuatro años. Para este 2011 parecía que todo se iba a mantener como siempre,al no hacer grandes movimientos para reforzar el equipo,sin embargo,para alegría de Pittsburgh las cosas hasta los momentos van favorables.

Para comenzar a hablar de este equipo tenemos que hacerlo de su manager Clint Hurdle, quien esta en su primer año con los piratas. Se estreno como manager en 2002 con colorado,en el 2007 los llevo a la post temporada, llegaron a la serie Mundial, cayeron frente a Boston en cuatro juegos. En el 2009 fue despedido después de 46 juegos. Cosa curiosa.

James McDonald que llego el año pasado procedente de los dodgers y Charlie Morton completan la rotación.

Además cuentan con Joel Hanrahan como cerrador y hasta los momentos esta imbateable,1.34 de efe en 40 entradas lanzadas con promedio de 7 ponche por cada 9 innings lanzados. mejor imposible. Esta entre los lideres en rescates con 25.

En cuanto a la ofensiva,se tiene que comenzar hablando del center field Andrew McCutchen,que en par de años se ha convertido en el estelar del equipo.Lideriza al equipo con promedio de 291 y 14 cuadrangulares,además de haber robado 15 bases. invitacion al juego de las estrellas para Andrew por demás justificada.

Clint Hurdle siempre fue muy joseador como pelotero,ahora como managers ha demostrado que también tiene lo suyo, esta decidido a mantenerse en la pelea para la segunda mitad del campeonato. con un equipo joven,pero con la experiencia suficiente para competir a la par con los grandes de la division central. la interrogante es si podrán mantener el nivel de juego por lo que resta de campeonato.

Pienso en lo particular que los Piratas son contendientes serios en esta próxima mitad. desde el año pasado dijimos que este equipo tenia las piezas. en definitiva esta buena noticia ha hecho revivir recuerdos en la ciudad de las glorias de Roberto Clemente y compañía.
