5 Steps to Being More Happy with Life

What is the secret to happiness is a time old question for a reason, because the answer is not at all simple. Happiness is an illusive animal that evades many individual, but it can be captured with just a little bit of effort. Happiness seems like such a basic thing to ask of life, but sometimes it is just hard to get a hold on it. Here are 5 steps that will help you feel more happy with life.

1. Distinguish Between Wants and Need

Believe it or not, you have everything that you need. Take the time to make a list of everything that you already have to make you feel more appreciative of the fact you live a life of abundance. A lot of the things that one may want are not something that is necessary to survive, so when you find yourself yearning for something remember to keep it in perspective.

2. Embrace Your Limitations

Every person is born with a list of limitations due to class, genetics, diseases, personality quirks, etc. Instead of seeing these limitations as a bad thing, try to embrace them as part of your unique identity. There is a lot of things that you can do to improve our life, but there are some things that cannot be changed. Learned to go with the flow of the characteristics and maybe even be proud of them. Once you see your flaws as treasures who make you, you then you can begin to love yourself.

3. Set Achievable Goals

Making daily goals, short term goals and long term goals not only helps one stay focused, but it helps one constantly work on small improvements. Only by making small and consistent changes can you reach the desired destination, but it takes a lot of work. The feel of contentment one gets from knowing that if they are not to where they want to be yet, bu they are working towards it is an invaluable feeling of happiness.

4. Enjoy the Present Moment

Reasons for happiness pass you by everyday without you even noticing. Be mindful of all the small joys in life, so that you actually notice all the wonderful things going on around you. Small things like a tasty meal, time spend with a friend, having a job to go to, indoor plumbing, etc. are all things to celebrate!

5. Don't Play the Blame Game

Yes, sometimes life is unfair, but what does one gain from wasting energy on blaming things on the establishment, their mother or the weather? Learning to hold yourself accountable for the present is a scary thing to do, but it is also is empowering. Once one knows that the past cannot stop them then they can truly take their fate into their own hands.
