1. Breathe

For beginners and veterans alike, breathing is one of the most essential aspects of meditation. Some people prefer chanting while others would rather focus on different things such as certain colors and places. For the majority of people, the mechanical movement of breathing is enough to get them as relaxed as they can be.

One of the best ways to get the most out of your meditation is to breathe deeply in and out. There are two main reasons why this would be an effective strategy. For starters, deep, slow and deliberate breathing will allow more oxygen into your system and thus facilitating better brain function and general body wellness. Secondly, the mechanical rhythm created by deep breathing will act as a lulling process that allows you to relax.

2. Let go of the negativity

The truth is that not very many people know how to meditate as well as they may let on. Many of those who try to do it often find great difficulty. From wondering minds to simply not being able to relax and connect with your consciousness, it is all a big struggle.

Do not be mean towards yourself for not getting it right.

Ancient Monks and Buddhist knew how to do this effectively only after years and years of practicing. You will get it right as well but it will not happen overnight. You will need guidance along the way. One of the best ways to get the most out of your meditation is to accept that you might not be as good at it at first. Once you have come to that realization, you can start learning the fundamentals of meditation as a child would and that is when you will truly begin to benefit from it.

3. Invite an enlightened being into the circle

In order to clear your mind, focusing on certain meditation objects tend to help. Some of the most powerful meditation objects are enlightened beings. This could be anyone of your choosing. You could envision Jesus or Buddha; or whomever you consider enlightened and holy, it is up to you. The point is that the enlightened being should be someone that you would like to emulate and with whom you are at peace.

In some cases, you can even envision the future, more enlightened you.

When doing this, remember to ask yourself fundamental questions such as what you need to give to achieve that level of enlightenment? With regular meditation on this subject, you will find that the needed wisdom comes to you effortlessly.

In these moments, you may learn what makes you tick and what is missing in your life. But most importantly, you may learn what makes you happy as a person.

6. Believe in the process
