Lets face it, most of us need to relax more. The human mind isn't geared to handle the sort of pressure modern humans face. We're geared to be chased by a huge predator, and remedy this immediately by running away, or standing and fighting. The struggle last seconds, then it's over.

Modern stresses are more subtle and prolonged. It's true we rarely get chased by predators (except salesmen), but our stresses last much longer.

You may for example be stuck in a 2 hour hour traffic jam when you're late for work. Although you're under no physical threat of danger, you become stressed. Your heart starts beating faster, you begin to sweat and feel shaky. This is because THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT. You must sit there and take it, for as long as it lasts.

Your natural reaction is probably to open the door and run, but you can't do this can you? Instead you must bottle it up.

Stress can be even longer in duration than this…

You may have money troubles and worry about paying your mortgage. You may be worried that you might lose your home if you cannot pay. Where are you going to live? Where are your family going to live? What the hell's going to happen to you? It's not unusual for these things to worry us for 6 months or more. All the while we are slowly building up stress.

This sort of stress slowly eats away and can cause numerous health problems. There DOES NOT need to be any dramatic events to make us stressed. These little thing slowly build up. Believe me, worrying about your mortgage for 6 months can make you unwell.

What stress does to us

Stress harms us in almost every way imaginable. It causes you to produce nasty hormones in your body that are designed for flight or fight. The problem is that you don't usually run or fight, so they don't get burned off. They can literally poison your system.

Stress is also known to weaken your immune system, making you more vulnerable to infections. Stress also effects the balance of your body, hampering almost all its functions.

Too much stress must be avoided. This simple tool will seriously help you…

The method

What always happens when you're in a stressful situation? Your breathing becomes erratic, shallow and quick. Look out for this when you or someone around you is stressed. This ALWAYS happens.

In order to stop the stress, all you need to do is reverse this. Consciously breath slowly, deeply and evenly. In through your nose and out through your mouth. Try it for a few seconds right now. Feels good?

Even though you might not be that stressed, I'll wager that you feel much more relaxed after just a few seconds of this.

This is an amazingly powerful yet simple technique. It's so quick at bringing from a hyper stressed state to one of peace and tranquillity.

When you're next in a stressful situation, please try it. Make the conscious effort to breath slowly, deeply and evenly. I'll wager that in less than one minute you will have calmed down.
