Summertime Braces-Friendly Treats

Are you struggling to think of snacks to give your kids with braces? We know the summertime can be a crazy time for parents, so below you’ll find a few summertime braces-friendly recipes that young orthodontic patients will love.

Strawberry Watermelon Ice Pops

All kids love popsicles! Try these fun and healthy popsicles when the hot weather hits.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups watermelon cubes, with seeds and rind removed
  • 1 medium size lemon
  • 10 medium size strawberries
  • Optional: ½ cup water

Directions

Just pop everything into a blender and add water if the mixture is too sweet. Blend well, then pour the mixture into ice pop molds and freeze for 4 to 6 hours. Enjoy!

Frozen Yogurt Raspberries

Fresh raspberries are easy to find during the summer and they’re a great snack for kids with braces.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup vanilla Greek yogurt
  • ¾ cup raspberries

Directions

Fill a piping bag (or zip lock bag) with the yogurt. Freeze for a few minutes to an hour, checking every 10 minutes. The yogurt should solidify without becoming solid, so keep your eye on it! Meanwhile, rinse the raspberries and allow them to dry. When the yogurt is frozen just right, put it into the piping bag. If you’re using a zip lock bag, fill the bag with the yogurt then cut off a corner. Then just fill each berry with the frozen yogurt and serve immediately! Your kids are sure to gobble them up so make plenty!

Zucchini Oven Chips

These chips don’t break brackets because they’re soft and baked in the oven. Give them a try and let us know how they taste.

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups zucchini, sliced 1/4-inch thick
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ cup Italian bread crumbs
  • 2 teaspoons oregano
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 F. Put the zucchini slices in a large bowl and drizzle the olive oil over them to coat. Then add the breadcrumbs and toss to coat. Spread the coated zucchini on a baking sheet. Then sprinkle the cheese & oregano over the slices. Bake for about 15 minutes or until the zucchini slices are tender and the cheese is browned.
