Willcox ace Hattie Macumberpitched a no-hitter in Willcox’s 8-0 victory Sunday over Nevada in the opening-round game of the Little League West Regional Tournament at San Bernardino, Calif.
Willcox next plays Southern California in a winners’ bracket semifinal game Wednesday at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
Macumber, who pitched a no-hitter in the state championship against Goodyear last week, struck out nine batters against Nevada without a walk.
She faced three batters over the minimum in the six-inning game, in which she threw 81 pitches. The three Nevada batters who reached were hit by a pitch (twice) and on an error.
Macumber also helped her cause at the plate, going 1 for 3 with a two-run single that put Willcox ahead 2-0.
After a wild pitch allowed Willcox to increase its lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth, Izabella Pando’stwo-run triple increased the lead 5-0.
Willcox took advantage of two errors by Nevada to extend the lead to 7-0 going to the bottom of the fifth.
A wild pitch brought home Willcox’s last run in the sixth.
Carley Torreshad a single and two runs for Willcox and Karlie St. Clairehit a single and scored a run.

Marana’s Aubriana Graypitched a complete game to lead her team to a 7-4 win over Nevada in an elimination-bracket game after losing earlier in the day to Washington 10-5.
Gray struck out six without a walk and scattered 10 hits in her seven innings.
Malia Millswent 2 for 3 with a run and Kyla Laytonhit an RBI single for Marana, which plays in the next round of the elimination bracket against Southern California at 6 p.m. at Arthur Pack.
Nevada took a 3-0 lead in the first inning but Marana rallied for four runs all following errors in the third inning to take the lead for good.
Layton’s RBI single and fielder’s choice groundout by Brooke Beckproduced two insurance runs in the sixth for Marana.
