Quarantine Requirement Updates

Michigan no longer requires at-home quarantine for exposed individuals in most situations, even if the exposed person is unvaccinated. The exposed individual can continue to come to work if they do not develop symptoms. Find more guidance on our Isolation and Quarantine page. 

Masking Guideline Updates

Universal masking in indoor public settings is no longer broadly recommended by the CDC, except in areas of high transmission. Individuals with symptoms, a positive test or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask. Individuals may also decide to mask based on personal preference. A multilayer, surgical, KN95 or N95 mask is recommended rather than a single-layer cloth mask.

Business Guidance and Resources

The Berrien County Health Department encourages each organization to evaluate its operations and follow CDC and OSHA recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19. 

Businesses/organizations may determine their own policies on masking and notification of positive cases.

  • Michigan Occupational Safety & Environmental Health (MIOSHA) provides workplace safety guidance and information on filing a complaint.
  • Employees who are in isolation or quarantine because of COVID-19 symptoms, test results or exposure cannot report to work, according to Michigan law ( PA 238 of 2020 and PA 339 of 2020 ). Employees cannot be disciplined, discharged or otherwise retaliated against for staying home during isolation or quarantine.
  • Unemployment assistance is available to many employees when required to be out of work due to COVID-19.
