“Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred at 6:40 p.m. Sunday (May 5, 2024) on eastbound Afton Mountain Road in Nelson County.
A 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling east on Afton Mountain Road near Williams Creek Lane when it ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle continued into a ditch where it struck a culvert and overturned.
The driver of the Tahoe, Phillip R. Pugh, 65, of Afton, Va., died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The crash remains under investigation.
