3 Easter Egg Ideas for Life Under Quarantine

Quarantine. Sigh. I remember in March telling my kids that we would be out of it before Easter. Houston, where we live has been under a Stay-at-Home order for three weeks now. I really did not think we would be preparing for Easter at home, in the midst of homeschooling and isolation.

I’m sure none of you thought you’d be here either. Part of me wants to say that we need to put on a smile and make the best of it but after a hard year dealing with depression, I’ve learned a lot. So… it’s OK to mourn this time and be sad. You don’t have to put on a happy face. But what about the kids? You’ll teach them that it’s OK to be honest with feelings and face the truth behind what’s happening in their lives.

But none of you came here for “Life Lessons with Clumsy Crafter” so let’s just talk about a few fun Easter activities that you can do at home.

First, I know eggs are in short supply or they may be rationed. All of these ideas you can also do with a piece of paper cut into an egg shape.

1 – Dye Easter Eggs with Butter

Dying easter eggs with butter is fun and it’s number one on this list because it’s also a great homeschool lesson. For those of you that are overnight teachers, this is a great way to get those little minds thinking. Butter is an oil, food dye is not so the two will not mix. This is actually considered a resist, like the easy style of painting that I’ve shown you how to do.

2 – Decorate Easter Eggs with Melted Crayon

This is one of my favorite ways to decorate Easter Eggs. It’s very simple and the colors are amazing. Plus this is a great way to use up the broken crayons that are lurking in your kid’s art supplies.

If you can’t find eggs and want to do this for Easter, place crayon shavings between two pieces of wax paper cut into egg shapes. Put a thin towel over the wax paper and iron on low until it’s melted. These are really pretty put into a window where the light can stream through it.

Marbled Easter Eggs with Shaving Cream

If I could marble everything in life with shaving cream, I probably would. I love to marble paper with shaving cream but it also works well on eggs.

If you can’t find eggs, this is a really easy substitution to make using paper.
