About our community
New Hampshire and Vermont are greatly impacted by cancer. Compared with the United States, we have:
- Higher rates of new cancer diagnoses
- Higher rates of cancer deaths. 1
Certain cancers are especially common in our community compared with the United States, including breast cancer, lung cancer, melanoma, and several other cancers. 1
Based on this and other information, in 2021, our Community Advisory Board and other advisors chose four cancers as priority areas for Dartmouth Cancer Center:
- Breast cancer
- Colorectal cancer
- Lung cancer
- Melanoma
Learn about how we address these cancers through our research and outreach work in the community.
