As the years pass, your facial skin will lose its firm, supple quality. Wrinkles, lines, and creases begin to appear from nose to mouth (nasolabial folds) and from mouth to chin (marionette lines). Dermal fillers restore lost volume, smoothing away the years in a procedure that requires only minutes to complete.
Dermal fillers are gel-like injectables, scientifically formulated to restore lost volume, smooth lines and wrinkles or enhance natural structure at cheeks, chin, or temples. Each filler is designed for specific areas and varies in thickness. Dermal fillers can be used to:
We offer three different families of dermal fillers, each of which has unique benefits and advantages:
Our approach to dermal fillers is to achieve an elegant, refined look, never overfilled or unnatural. Dr. Khalifeh is among the most talented plastic surgeons practicing in Washington DC and injects fillers with meticulous care to achieve results that appear natural-looking and refreshed. We usually start with Radiesse® to create a subtle, deeper foundation of supporting volume, as Radiesse® lasts for about 18 months. Once that foundation has been created, fillers from Restylane® and Juvéderm® are custom injected to artfully shape and smooth your skin, plump your lips, or create a definition to your facial structure.
Most people who want to enhance their facial features are good candidates for dermal fillers. The fillers we use are all FDA-approved and safe for almost any skin type.
Nasolabial folds (parentheses lines that surround the mouth) are the primary location for filler injections. View the results of our custom injections, which included one tube of Radiesse for the deeper aspects of the fold, followed by Juvéderm to treat the superficial aspects of the wrinkle. Radiesse is excellent for the deeper folds, lasting about eighteen months. Whenever appropriate, we will recommend the longest lasting filler for that area.
The lips can be accentuated and enhanced with fillers. Dr. Khalifeh prefers hyaluronic acid-based fillers, such as Juvéderm, Restylane, or Belotero for lip enhancement. If the lips already have a nicely defined arch, we will follow the arch to accentuate it. For flatter lips, the Cupid’s bow can be enhanced to create a more appealing lip appearance.

No, BOTOX® falls under the family of wrinkle relaxers, which are injectable treatments that prevent the muscles that cause wrinkles from contracting.
Severe complications from dermal fillers are rare, and the potential risks depend on which product is used. Some of the known complications and side effects include asymmetry, bruising, bleeding from the injection site, and swelling, damage to the skin, infection at the injection site, lumps and palpability of the filler under the surface of the skin, skin rash with itching and acne-like eruptions, and skin redness. These risks and others will be thoroughly discussed before your procedure. As always, having your treatment performed by an expert injector such as Dr. Khalifeh can reduce risk, and will create a subtle, natural result.
A common debate we hear is which injectable is best for deep and long-lasting dermal filling: Juvéderm® Voluma or Radiesse®? The simple answer is that after using both extensively, we prefer Radiesse® for adding deep volume, while Juvéderm® is ideal or artistically shaping, crafting, and plumping.
