New Terms and Conditions for 2024

The Kennebec Water District (KWD) Board of Trustees and the Maine Public Utilities Commission have approved revisions to KWD’s Terms and Conditions of service. The revised Terms and Conditions went into effect on May 1, 2024. Changes include updated fees and modifications to metering and backflow procedures. These revisions do not impact water rates. Please see them by clicking here .

Our Source Water

The Kennebec Water District has used China Lake as its source of supply since 1905. China lake, covering an area of 6.1 square miles and a maximum depth of 85 feet, holds about 31.7 billion gallons of fresh water at any given time and provides more than enough capacity year around. The intake is in the West Basin of the lake which is largely undeveloped due to the Kennebec Water District’s management of these lands for over 100 years. Click below to find out more.

KMD MAIN BREAK UPDATE
We have been able to restore water service faster than expected and have restored water service to all customers on KMD with the exception of one customer with whom we are working with directly. We apologize for the inconvenience this break has caused, it's been challenging to say the least. Today's work allowed us to restore water service for now, but we still have to repair the broken water main underneath the traffic light foundation. We are in discussions with the City of Waterville and Maine DOT to identify the best long term solution. Thank you all for your patience.

KMD MAIN BREAK UPDATE
The shutdown area has been reduced back to the original shutdown area and now just covers the original shutdown area including Shaw's Plaza, Central Maine Motors Chrysler, Waterville Pediatrics, Applebee's, Flagship Cinemas, Harvest Moon Deli, and Dairy Queen. We should have the water service restored in the rest of the shutdown area in the next couple of hours with the exception of one customer with whom we are working with directly.
