6 Super Fun Hobbies You Should Take Up Today To Make You Smarter

Sharing is caring!

We are all smart in our own ways. We all have unique talents and gifts. But mo st of us stagnate and don't get ahead. We forget that it's important to not only keep learning but also to try new things. Often when we pick up a new hobby we realize that we love it and wonder why we didn't do it sooner.

Trying something new is also really good for the brain, especially as we start to age. It's important to exercise our entire bodies but it's equally important to exercise our brain too. It needs to be challenged and worked out as well. What better way to do that then by trying something new and fun. Unlike our bodies where we have to do strenuous exercise to keep it in shape, our brains require mental stimulation to stay in shape and what can be more fun or stimulating than these 6 things listed below?

Any instrument. If it's something you've been wanting to do for a very long time there's no better time to learn then today. Obviously some instruments are harder to learn than others but how much smarter do you want to be? A piano can be quite the challenge but then some people learn new things quite quickly. You may surprise yourself.

2. Do puzzles or crosswords or any kind of brain game.

Now that's a brain workout. Especially Sudoku. If you've never tried it go buy a beginner's book and take a stab at it. It's challenging but addictive. Once you start you will have a hard time putting the book down. Your brain will be working overtime on this one and it will thank you for that.

3. Read read read.

I'm not talking about school books but any kind of book. When was the last time you read a good novel or an interesting biography maybe on your favourite musician or war hero? Is there something or one subject that really interests you? Head down to your local library and see what's sitting on the shelf there sitting on a shelf collecting dust waiting to be read. You'll be amazed at how much you can learn. Learn=smart.

4. Travel.

If you can. Pick a different place a year. If you take lots of road trips throughout summer months pick a different city or go off the beaten path a bit. It is in doing this you will learn about the history of the place and the people. Always lots to learn and discover on the open highway. Grab a travel guide and fill your gas tank. If you like to do air travel then definitely pick an exciting location each year not just one that requires you to sit at a beach and drink pina coladas all day. Explore and learn.

5. Learn a new language.

This one can definitely be a toughie but oh the fun you can have doing it. There are several free programs offered on the internet for people who want to learn the basics of a new language. Practice with a friend. This is a great stimulant for the brain. Another hobby that you might actually master quickly and another chance to surprise yourself and maybe even amaze some friends.

6. Play a sport.

It's great exercise, it's fun and you have to learn the rules and always be strategizing. This will wake up your brain for sure. It will also wake up your body. Learning a new sport is also a great way to make new friends. If you are new to a city and looking for a social circle this is perfect. You are getting in some great exercise, working out your brain and making new friends. These new friends may also introduce to other groups of people which in turn could lead to more fun. Maybe even some card game nights? Ah. Learning new games is also great brain exercises.

You can see exercising your brain and getting it in shape to be smarter is loads of fun. Find clubs in your area that need members for games, sports or any other activity. It's time to step out of your comfort zone, try something new and retrain your brain. Your brain is tired of the same old stuff and will get old quick. Shake it up and give it a new life.
