I love hoop wreaths. Don’t get me wrong – grapevine wreaths or mesh wreaths are fun too but the simplicity and how easy it is to make a hoop wreath makes it a winner in my book. I’m made a lot of them. Last year I made an easy fall hoop wreath that I LOVED. This year I reversed course and went a different way with this easy fall decor idea. This DIY fall hoop wreath is so easy that you won’t know what to do with yourself.
This is the hoop wreath I made for last fall . It was dark and moody with a pop of peach. I still love it.
But this summer I was browsing my local craft store on the day they were putting out all the new fall flowers and I fell just as much in love with the textures on the orange and yellow flowers. What’s a girl to do besides make a new hoop wreath?
Last year I decoupaged the hoop with old newspaper. This year, I painted it my favorite fall color. I used this color, Thicket by DecoArt American Paints , on the screen pumpkin art project a few weeks ago and since then I’ve used it on everything. It just fits with orange and yellow.
I started by painting my hoop. For this hoop, I used a bamboo embroidery hoop.
You can use all kinds of hoops. They now have metal hoops or even pressed paper hoops, like the one I used on the other fall hoop wreath. Some people have even made hoop wreaths using the tiny hoola hoops they sometimes sell at the dollar store. However I just grabbed this bamboo embroidery hoop at the store and decided to give it a go.
To make a hoop wreath, you’ll also need wire cutters, floral wire and a hot glue gun.
As for flowers, I like to use flower bunches, usually about 1-2 different flowers with some longer grass or leaves as well. For this wreath, I had three different bunches. One was a long grass with tiny yellow ends, there was another bunch of spiky yellow flowers and then the big spiky orange flowers.
I’ve been making wreaths for a long time so I can eyeball about how long I want to cut each piece – but if this is one of your first times, layout the flowers on the wreath form to get an idea of how you want it to look and then use your wire cutters to cut the flowers apart.
Once I cut mine apart, then I lay out the flowers and trim the ends as needed. The longer grass pieces go in the back and then the shorter ends can be tucked into them to hide them.
Once you know how you want your wreath to look, take off the small flowers and details and begin looping wire around the form and the tall grass pieces that you want in the back.
Once you have your back pieces wired down, then tuck the smaller flowers into the wire. You can add a little hot glue if they are having trouble sticking.

Once your wreath is put together, hide any wire that you can see by rearranging leaves or hot gluing small leaves over the wire.
It’s simple friends . It truly is. If you can wrap wire in a messy and haphazard fashion, you can make this.
I love how it turned out and it’s now proudly hanging on my front door.
