Fun Kid's Craft Idea! Pool Noodle Monsters using supplies from the Dollar StoreSummer is alllllmost here. It’s so close that my kid’s minds are already there. Anyone else having trouble getting their kids to focus? This is a craft from last summer BUT we’ve redone it several times since then and my 10 year old loves them! In fact, this craft idea is listed as one of the crafts in my 2019 VBS “In The Wild” Craft Ideas post.  This craft is a guaranteed hit that is perfect for kids because it lets their imaginations soar.  I love crafts and activities that let kids be 1000% creative, such as this one. If you are looking for a fun, inexpensive craft for kids to do this summer to ward off the boredom, stop where you’re at and check out this fun summer craft idea, Pool Noodle Monsters. Not only is this kid’s craft fun, it’s also cheap! Everything I needed, except for glue, was purchased at the dollar store.  Yup. I spent less than $10 to make several of these pool noodle monsters and the best news is that I still have a ton of supplies left over for future crafts with my kids.  This is a great way to repurpose pool noodles once they get old and worn. However, if you don’t have an old one in your garage, you can buy pool noodles at the dollar store.  You should be able to get 7-8 monsters out of each pool noodle.  That’s why this is a great craft for kids. They can either make their own pool noodle monster army or you can have this craft ready for a playdate or summer party without breaking the bank.

So what do you need to make Pool Noodle Monsters?

First make sure you have a pool noodle that you can cut into pieces. Each of my pieces was about 6″ long. If you make them too long, they will have trouble standing up.  Next gather a variety of craft supplies that kids will love such as:
  • pom poms
  • pony beads
  • googly eyes
  • pipe cleaners
  • feathers
  • fun foam
  • glitter glue
I also used tacky glue to stick the pieces to the pool noodle. Now is when the fun truly begins. Give the kids the supplies and let them go wild. Do they want their monster to have a ton of eyes? Well, it can!  Tip: The pool noodle pieces might roll back and forth on the table when you are trying to glue them, use a small washcloth with the sides rolled up to make a place to rest the pool noodle pieces. The pipe cleaners are great because you can push them directly into the pool noodle and they will stay without glue. This easy kid’s craft is fun because it involves a summer staple – the pool noodle – but also lets the kid’s imaginations run wild!  This is such a great craft to do with your kids alone or with a giant group.  What do you think? Do you like this idea or are you more of a Toilet Paper Roll Snake type person?   Pool Noodle Monsters - Fun Summer Craft for Kids!
