Want to learn about the game of basketball, but don’t know where to start? Well here’s your starting point! Misses to Swishes is your how to guide for anyone interested in learning the game of basketball. Whether you are a beginner who knows nothing, a current player who wants to get back to the basics, or even a parent of a player trying to figure out exactly what you are watching your son or daughter do, this site is for you. Here you will find simple explanations of the elements involved including various skills and rules. As a ten year veteran of the sport, I am very passionate about all things basketball. My favorite holiday: March Madness (yes I consider this a holiday), my all-time favorite movie: Love & Basketball, my favorite season: winter, because it’s basketball season.
This obsession did not grow on its own, however. I do have to give credit where credit is due. It was actually because of my older (and slightly annoying) brother who began my obsession. At 8 years old I would follow him outside to shoot some hoops in the driveway, but he never made it easy for his lil’ sis. However, thanks to him I have a shooting style all my own and I can easily switch between a women’s and men’s basketball (yes there’s a difference). To be honest, I prefer to use a men’s ball and think all women should learn with one. But maybe that’s just me and my opinion. To think, the ten years of effort I put into the sport from recreation league, summer camps and tryout after tryout would lead me to be a member of the Narragansett Lady Mariner Basketball Back-to-Back State Champions.
