Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Has The Stuff Speed Lovers Only Dream About

While Dodge has put an end to the insane Challenger SRT Demon that only had a limited production, it now has the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye. It’s not as powerful as the 840 horses that the Demon had, but it received many of the same upgrades as its twin.

There are going to be two models for the car: the SRT Hellcat and the SRT Hellcat Redeye. Focusing a bit on the Redeye variant, it will have 797 horsepower (the regular Hellcat only has 717 horses) and 707 pound-feet of torque. It is an insanely powerful machine that is challenging the limits to what’s legal on the road.

The power of the Hellcat Redeye comes from a 6.2-liter V-8 engine. Now that the Demon has been laid to rest, the Redeye is the “most powerful production V-8,” Dodge said. The Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye can go from 0 to 60 mph in under 3.4 seconds. It can also reach 131 mph in just a quarter mile time of 10.8 seconds.

Other details include a larger 2.7-liter supercharger, up to 14.5 psi, a higher redline (up to 6,500 rpm), and dual-stage fuel pumps. There’s also going to be a new dual-snorkel hood and an Air Catcher headlamp on the driver’s side of the fascia.

There are other upgrades that separate the Hellcat Redeye from the Demon, though. There’s going to be a Widebody Package for Challenger R/T Scat Pack models. The package will give the muscle car an extra 3.5 inches of width, a plus-sized six-pot front brakes from Brembo, extra wide wheels and tires, and a new suspension.

Production of the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye will begin this fall and deliveries will start by the fourth quarter. There will be no limits to the production of the Redeye, unlike the Demon.

Will There Be a New Dodge Viper?

dodge viper

The Dodge Viper is probably one of the most iconic cars of our generation. With its production tracing back from 1992 to 2010 and then making a comeback in 2012, it was sad to see it go last year. So, during the recent interview of Fiat Chrysler Automotive CEO Sergio Marchionne, he was asked if there are plans to revive the sports car.

Based on Marchionne’s statement, the future of the Viper remains bleak. He said that the Viper cannot stand on its own because it needs to share its architecture. Then, it needs a platform specifically designed to house its American engine. Another factor holding back the return of the sports car was its low sales volume.

With that, the rumors about the sixth-generation Dodge Viper were doused. It was previously speculated that there were plans for the new model to ditch its V10 engine in favor of a new naturally-aspirated V8. The unit will be able to produce 558 hp for its base trim and up to 710 hp for its range-topping trim. Reports claimed too that the upcoming Viper will get a lighter platform, but it will retain its distinctive shape as well as its front-engine and rear-drive set-up.

For now, it appears that the fate of the Viper has been sealed though.

Dodge Continuing the Charger and Challenger

Despite the heartbreaking developments about the Viper, Dodge will go on with its Charger and Challenger models. Marchionne said that the two will get an upgraded architecture.

The FCA CEO noted that they will likely continue using the Giorgio platform for the cars. However, the architecture needs an upgrade to make the models more competitive. He hinted that by the time they are finished reworking the current platform, we might not be able to recognize it from its origins.

Honda Civic Type R Takes on the Dodge Challenger Hellcat

dodge challenger hellcat vs honda civic type r

Which one wins if you put the Honda Civic Type R against the Dodge Challenger Hellcat? Well, this one is a no-brainer since the Hellcat is such a beast on the road.

Recently, the two were pitted against each other on the track. A father and son duo were seen racing the two cars in a YouTube video by The Fast Lane Car channel.

You will be surprised with the result.

First off, the Hellcat possesses a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine. The unit screams 707 hp. On the other hand, the Honda Civic Type R has a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine. That delivers a measly 306 hp.

Comparing the outputs of the two, the Civic Type R’s power is not even half of what the Hellcat is capable of. So when it came to the drag race, the Dodge muscle car darted like an angry animal chasing its prey while the Honda was left to eat dust. That was truly predictable looking at the numbers alone.

It does not end there though. The son challenged the dad to where he thought the Civic Type R will be at an advantage—in a hot lap.

The Honda sports car may come short in power compared to the competition, but its lighter weight, shorter wheelbase and better suspension give it a good shot against the Dodge supercar.

The fast lap was a different story because while the Hellcat took the straight road easily, it struggled on bends. The Hellcat finished the lap in 1 minute and 12 seconds.

When it was the Civic Type R’s turn, it appeared more agile at corners as it smoothly cruised its way on track. The total time of the car was 1 minute and 8 seconds. That was 4 seconds faster than the Hellcat’s lap time.

3 Things You Have To Know About The 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon

2018 dodge challenger srt (1)

The Dodge Challenger, which nameplate was revived in 2008 after a 25-year hiatus, is the oldest muscle car available in the United States. With underpinnings from W211-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class (2002-2009), the Challenger was able to survive competing with the modern Mustang and Camaro.

Though the Challenger is basically a dated race car, it’s still one of the favorites of most car enthusiasts. This coming 2018, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will bring the brand to a whole new level.

Here are the top 3 features of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon based on a report :

1. Exterior

If you saw the Hellcat, then you’ll have a good idea what’s to come with the Challenger SRT Demon. It’s basically a Hellcat in “steroids.” The most notable features are the revised splitter and the wider and taller hood scoop. On the sides, the body is wider and the fender flares hide fatter tires and improve the car’s aggressive stance. The Demon head badges can be found on the front fenders.

There are 14 exterior colors available for the Dodge such as B5 Blue, Billet Silver, Destroyer Grey, F8 Green, Go Mango, Granite Crystal, Indigo Blue, Maximum Steel, Octane Red, Pitch Black, Plum Crazy, TorRed, White Knuckle, and Yellow Jacket. Optionally, you can have a Satin Black engine hood or the Satin Black hood, roof, and decklid package.

2. Interior

When it comes to the interior of the car, you will remember the 2015 Challenger. There is not much to talk about it, except you’ll find the Demon head logos on the seat backs, the Alcantara steering wheel, the bespoke TFT display, the white-faced gauges in the instrument cluster, and the carbon-fiber badge with “Demon” script.

The Demon comes only with one seat, though you can turn it into a five-seater for a measly $1 each.

3. Drivetrain

The Demon is currently being powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine just like the Hellcat. The engine now has a larger, 2.7-liter supercharger, as well as increased boost pressure, a higher rpm limit, and a larger induction air box.

The total output is 840 horsepower and 770 pound-feet of torque. That’s a 133-horsepower increase from the one found in the Hellcat.

Charging from 0 to 30 mph takes just one second, and to reach the 60-mph mark, you only need 2.3 seconds. This makes the Demon quicker than supercars like the Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1, and Porsche 918 Spyder.

5 Most Powerful American Cars and SUVs Today

Earlier, we have discussed how automotive experts wanted the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon banned from the roads. They are worried that its ridiculously high output might trigger reckless drivers. That is subject for debate though.

For now, let us take a look at where the Dodge Demon falls under the 5 most powerful American cars and sport utility vehicles today based on an article from Fox News Auto .

1. 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon

dodge challenger srt demon

Unsurprisingly, the Demon falls into first place, thanks to its 6.2-liter V8 engine that can produce up to 808 hp. As if that’s not yet high enough, the source said that pumping the vehicle with 100 octane race gas can raise its output to 840 hp.

2. Dodge Challenger/Charger SRT Hellcat

hellcat

The Hellcats each carry a 6.2-liter V8 unit. The engine packs 707 hp. The Challenger model is capable of getting a top speed of 199 mph while the more aerodynamically-built Charger can take up to 204 mph.

3. 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

2018 Jeep® Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is considered as the most powerful in the SUV segment. The auto shares the same engine as the Hellcat, which is good for 707 hp. The vehicle only falls a bit short in the torque department compared to the Hellcat. The Trackhawk has 645 lb-ft of torque while the Hellcat has 650 lb-ft. The SUV also boasts an all-wheel drive system.

4. 2014 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

mustang shelby gt500

The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 packs a 5.8-liter supercharged V8 engine. The output of the unit is 662 hp and it can reach up to 202 mph.

5. 2018 Chevrolet Camaro Z06/Camaron ZL1

Tying in the fifth place of this list are the Chevrolet Camaro Z06 and the Camaro ZL1 . Each car is equipped with 6.2-liter supercharged V8 with 650 hp. The ZL1 has faster shift times than the Z06 though as it has a 10-speed automatic gearbox compared to its sibling’s eight-speed unit.

Should the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon Be Banned From the Roads?

dodge challenger srt demon

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon was recently launched at the New York Auto Show. Its maker boasts that the product has the highest horsepower, G-force, zero to 60 mph acceleration and 1/4-mile sprint in a production car.

The SRT Demon features significant changes compared to the Hellcat. Under the hood of the car lies a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine. It may be the same as the unit carried by the Hellcat but the Demon offers significant improvement thanks to its new pistons, rods, supercharger, valve train and fuel injection system.

The upgrades provide the Demon an output of 840 hp and 770 lb-ft of torque. Now that’s the part where the critics are complaining.

According to a report from Automotive News , they are arguing that the power of Fiat Chrysler’s latest creation might endanger motorists. Thus, they are saying that its registration as a road-worthy car should be banned.

The article claimed that although the Demon was built as a drag racer, it has been banned by the National Hot Rod Association for being “too fast”. That further strengthens the group’s call for the car to be prohibited in the roads.

With all due respect to the source, it should be noted that the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards allows the Demon’s registration for use in public roads. Its maker might have pushed its performance to ridiculous and impractical levels, but again, it is still within the limits set by regulatory bodies.

The people opposing the Demon’s road-worthiness should instead focus more on the key safety features of the auto rather than just basing their arguments on engine power alone. On the issue that people might be tempted to put the pedal to the metal on the Demon, that is already within the discretion of the driver. Some examples to reduce instances of the vehicle falling into the wrong hands is that the critics should call for the stricter issuance of driver’s license to people and there should be implementation of mandatory training programs for supercar owners.

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Transformed Into “The Exorcist” by Hennessey

hennessey performance chevrolet camaro zl1 the exorcist 1

The Hennessey Performance Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, also known as “The Exorcist”, is placed on the dyno to find out the actual power going to its wheels.

Hennessey Performance took a shot at the new Dodge Challenger SRT Demon with its tuned Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 rechristened as “The Exorcist”. The performance of the auto was raised to a total of 1,000 hp to beat the 840 hp possessed by its rival car.

The Boost

The Chevy Camaro ZL1 is equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 engine. The output of the unit is at 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. The power of the car is distributed via a 10-speed automatic transmission gearbox with manual shifting mode. The said factors allow the vehicle to sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds and gain a top speed of 195 mph.

The Exorcist reportedly to carries 1,000 hp in its tuned V8 engine. The dyno testing of the car resulted to 959 hp and 756 lb-ft of torque going to its tires. There is no data yet about its new acceleration time from zero to 60 mph but it should be incredibly faster than the stock numbers. The maximum speed of the vehicle is expected to get a bump too.

The Exorcist Vs the Demon

The Hennessey Performance Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 “The Exorcist” is yet to take on the Dodge Challenger Demon. So whether “The Exorcist” prevails against the “Demon”, or vice versa, in a drag race remains to be seen. Looking at the numbers though, the odds seem stacked in favor of the Camaro.

The source estimated that if the drivetrain power loss of a modern car, which is around 10 percent, is applied to “The Exorcist”, the overall power of the auto in the crank might be around 1,100 hp.

3 Things To Learn About The 2017 Dodge Challenger GT AWD

2017-dodge-challenger-gt-6

If you’re looking for a muscle car that is ideal for the cold winter weather, then you may check out the 2017 Dodge Challenger GT AWD. It’s not as powerful as the Camaro and the Ford Mustang, but its 305-horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine is enough to plow through inches of snow.

Here are its three main features according to a source :

1. It Can Reroute Power Towards The Front Wheels

The V-6 engine is paired with ZF’s 8-speed automatic transmission, which, in turn, is connected to the same transfer case and front-axle disconnect utilized in the all-wheel-drive Dodge Charger. If you drive the Challenger GT AWD under normal conditions, the 268 lb. ft. of torque charges through the rear wheels. When driving conditions require for the power to move forward, the system reroutes the power to the front.

2. It Comes With Convenient Features To Make Up For The Lack Of V-8

Unfortunately, the 2018 Dodge Challenger GT AWD will not come with a V-8 option. It did make up for it by including a Sport Mode, shift paddles, and launch control, as well as a host of other convenient features such as nappa leather for the cabin, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an 8.4-inch Uconnect display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a universal garage door opener, metal-trimmed pedals, and a 276-watt Alpine stereo with six speakers.

3. It Is Cheaper Than The Subaru WRX STI, But More Expensive Than The Ford Mustang

The 2017 Dodge Challenger GT AWD, with all of its muscle-type appearance and all-weather capabilities, will come with a price tag of $34, 490. That is less than the Subaru WRX STI, but slightly more than the price of the Ford Mustang GT. That’s understandable, though, since the Mustang is 130 ponies more powerful than the Dodge Challenger. Production of the 2017 Dodge Challenger will begin in January, so deliveries will begin during the first quarter of next year.

Spy Shots Of 2018 Dodge Challenger ADR Leaked

2018-dodge-challenger-adr-wide-body-srt-hellcat-1

Dodge  will create a wide-body SRT Hellcat based on these spy shots of a 2018 Dodge Challenger ADR. Positioned above the SRT Hellcat, this new range-topping Challenger has recently been spotted testing on Michigan roads ahead of a likely 2017 market launch, making it an entry for the 2018 model year.

The prototypes sighted are wearing standard body panels but the protruding rubber can still be clearly seen. There is simply no mistaking that this new Challenger is going to have a wide and sexy body.

The photos weren’t properly zoomed in because the poor weather hinders so, but the tires are definitely wider than the tiny 275/40-size set currently on the SRT Hellcat.

There were previous rumors that the 315s would be fitted on this model, but that’s a conservative estimate judging by these spy shots. In the industry, the car with the biggest rubber is the Dodge Viper, which is fitted with the massive 355/30-size tires at the rear.

Dodge hinted of a wide-body Challenger back when it first introduced the Challenger GT AWD concept at the 2015 SEMA show. The concept consists of an all-wheel drive system from the Dodge Charger though there’s only a 5.7-liter V-8 similar to the Fiat Chrysler.

Speculations have been pointing out that there will be two wide-body options for the Challenger, though it is also possible that more will come. The first two options might be an all-wheel drive car with an entry-level 3.6-liter V-6 and a high-performance car with the Hellcat supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 and rear-wheel drive.

The high-performance car is the new model, expected to be called the Challenger ADR (American Drag Racer). It is a rear-wheel drive with extra rubber to help put the Hellcat’s hellish power. The current model can produce 707 horsepower, though that can easily be bumped up.

This model is expected to be the final hurrah for the current Challenger before a redesigned model is introduced.
