Honda CR-V Hybrid Getting Ready for US Release
Japanese automaker Honda is finally bringing its first hybrid sport utility vehicle in the US. The product is under the Honda CR-V range. The auto is set to go on sale in the fall of this year, and its deliveries to customers will start in 2020.
The hybrid SUV comes with a power boost compared to the existing gasoline-fed CR-V. In all, the auto produces 212 hp, which is 22 hp more than its sibling. Although no official figures are available yet, Honda estimates that the hybrid model will have a 50 percent improvement in terms of fuel efficiency than its gas counterpart. Also, we have no word yet about how far the pure electric mode of the SUV will take it at full charge.
Two electric motors complement the gas engine of the hybrid CR-V. Each motor is distributed in the front and rear axles, giving it an all-wheel-drive system.
The interior design of the hybrid CR-V is basically the same as its current gas variant. Highlighting its cabin is the 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Meanwhile, going for the Touring trim of the model adds a Qi pad that offers wireless charging for smartphones.
The SUV is equipped with the Honda Sensing as a standard feature. This provides adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking with pedestrian sensing, and road and lane departure mitigation system. Those who are looking for extra safety features in their vehicles can avail of the CR-V’s optional blind spot information system, rear cross-traffic monitoring, and automatic high beams.
Europe’s New Honda CR-V Will Get Third Row Seats
The European version of Honda’s latest iteration of its popular CR-V will have the option of third-row seating, the Japanese automaker announced days before the Geneva Motor Show. The American version, with its turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder, has been available in the US for months. This version, though, offers no option for third-row seating.
This is the very first time that Honda is offering its most popular compact SUV with third-row seats, considering the past few years have seen the automaker’s contemporaries going into this route. The move will place Honda on the run again as the best in its segment, competing well with the long-wheelbase VW Tiguan and the Nissan X-Trail (known in the use as Rogue). Both have available third rows.
The third-row seating option for the new European CR-V will only be available on the gas-powered variant, so we can expect that it will soon arrive in US shores. However, Honda refused to give any details if and when will that happen. All these are purely speculations and we hope we’re right thinking a third-row CR-V is in the worls for American showrooms, too.
Hybrid CR-V Powertrain
Honda also took the time to announce that there’s another new CR-V option—a hybrid powertrain. Honda just announced that it will go on sale in Europe in early 2019. Since last year’s Shanghai Auto Show, the Japanese maker has been hinting a hybrid version of the CR-V.
We’re not sure if this will be available in the United States, though reports point out that it will be. The hybrid version of the CR-V uses Accord Hybrid’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain, an engine that has already passed US regulations for emissions. In the US, it could very well compete with the Nissan Rogue Hybrid, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, and the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

It also has wide, muscular fenders, long hood, longer wheelbase, short rear overhang, and new dual exhaust outlets.
Out front, you can expect Honda LED headlights for the Touring trim, an Active Shutter Grille system, uprated aluminum alloy wheel sizes to 17 or 18 inches, narrow A-pillars, and sporty dual exhaust.
2. Roomier Interior
CR-V’s platform wins in space efficiency. The new CR-V has a wider stance and longer wheelbase, which gives it a total interior volume of up to 1.8 cubic feet. Those who had problems with the rear seat legroom before will be happy to know that it increased by 2.1 inches. If the second-row seat is folded up, the total cargo length is up to 9.8 inches compared to the previous model.
3. New Powertrain
For the EX and higher trims, the 2017 CR-V will have the first-ever turbocharged 1.5-liter DOHC, Direct-Injected and the turbocharged in-line 4-cylinder with dual Valve Timing Control. Its pairing with a platform that provides amazing aerodynamics numbers gave the CR-V the highest EPA fuel economy ratings in the compact SUV segment.
4. Premium Technologies
Aside from a more spacious cabin, the new CR-V also boasts of a new soft-touch instrument panel, stitched seats, a new color TFT driver information interface center, 7-inch touchscreen Display Audio interface with Android operating system, Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
To make it more convenient for the passengers, Honda added these: remote engine start, dual-zone climate controls, heated side mirrors, an Electric Parking Brake, dual rear USB charging ports, front passenger seat with 4-way power adjustment, and driver’s seat with 8-way power adjustment and 4-way power lumbar support.
