2020 Land Rover Defender Reveals Image In New Images Leaked

An Instagram post of the new 2020 Land Rover Defender showed the 4×4 ahead of the planned release next year. The leaked image showed the Defender without camouflage.

The photo clearly showed almost three-quarters of the car’s front, except for the missing bonnet. The flared wheel arches and LED headlamps are squared off while the upright windscreen and flat roof were clearly based on the original Defender.

Based on the previously released test mules, this new Defender will get influences from the old model. That means owners will get to enjoy the Defender’s trademark tailgate-mounted spare wheel, vertical rear tail lights, and slab-sides flanks.

These past images showed the Defender’s interior will be a notch higher in terms of technology. There are a large central screen and a digital instrument binnacle; the same system fitted to the latest Land Rover Discovery. The Defender will retain the same chunky heater controls and traditional rotary volume knob.

And as another set of teaser photos showed wherein a fleet of Defender mules were being used by Tusk, a Kenyan wildlife conservation charity organization, it looks like this model will be able to carry heavy loads, track radio-collared lions, and carry supplies across the 14,000-hectare Borana Conservancy.

The test was designed to examine the 4×4’s real-world performance.

The Land Rover Defender will be released in the UK in 2020. By that time, it would have finished more than 45,000 individual tests. It’s been tested on all surfaces—the backwaters of Eastnor in the UK, the trails of Death Valley in California, and the sand dunes of Dubai.

It has also been subjected to -40 degrees Celsius weather and as high as 48 degrees Celsius. The Defender mules have also been tested with the maximum altitudes of 13,000 feet and have crossed 1.2 million kilometers of the road across 11 countries.

Fresh Details On The Completely Redesigned 2020 Land Rover Defender

The Land Rover Defender was discontinued in 2016 because of safety reason (they couldn’t even fit the previous Defender with airbags) but we’re about to see a completely revamped and redesigned Defender for the 2020 model year.

A new report surfaced that said the new Defender will come out sometime in the next six months with new and cleaner engines, as well as the extensive use of aluminum on its body. Clearly, the Defender will be targeted to a more upscale market.

We’ve already seen a prototype of the new Defender at the end of 2018. Land Rover was generous enough to provide a batch of pictures of the off-roader’s camouflaged prototype. While we’re not exactly sure if the new Defender will be as boxy as the photos suggest, we do know that it will take after the Discovery model with a slightly higher ride height.

The Defender has always been known for being functional and direct to the point. It’s not a hit or a miss. When people buy a Defender, they know what they’re getting—which is, comfort-wise, means nothing. The Defender was all about performance and functionality, but the 2020 model will change that. This new off-roader hopes to marry function with style and substance and a whole lot of modern tech.

Reports based on Motortrend’s Johnny Lieberman’s Instagram post showed that the Defender would have an independent rear side and an air suspension fitted to it. Though this was not the conditions that the Defender was made for, what could Land Rover do exactly? They may alienate the farmers who really just like a functional Land Rover to roam over their lands, but the new Defender also has a chance to tap a new market and that should be fine.

The fully-independent suspension setup that Mr. Lieberman spied is similar to the one under the Land Rover Discovery. Does that mean we can expect the same 2.0-liter gasoline engines? We only have six months to wait as this one’s scheduled to debut at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. It will go on sale in 2020.

2020 Land Rover Defender May Arrive Next Year

Land Rover has given us a definitive teaser and a look into the all-new 2020 Land Rover Defender. It looks like we won’t have to wait too long to see the new Defender as Land Rover released a teaser photo of the boxy machine all wrapped in camouflage and driving into a transport truck. There are at least two dates mentioned on the teaser that makes it fairly clear the SUV will be unveiled next year.

Most prominent is the phrase “Do not unwrap until 2019,” which is a play on words referring to the holiday season and the camouflage wrap on the Defender. This makes us feel fairly certain that the Defender will be released next year.

However, the company has been pretty lax in showing off the car in camouflage in public lately, so that might be a sign that we’ll be seeing the new Defender very soon—maybe even by the end of the auto show season in New York in April.

More information should be available by December 27. A Land Rover representative said that the company will release more details about the 2020 Land Rover Defender on that day. Of course, it won’t be a full reveal yet but we’re hoping to see the Defender in all of its teaser glory, which means no camouflage, please. Then again, the representative may not be talking about sightings of the Defender at all.

“More information” may also mean that the company will give us the full details on the reveal date, as well as more photos and videos of the still camouflaged Defender. We’re also quite interested in the tailgate-mounted spare tire we have seen on the heavily camouflaged Defender, so we’d love to have more details about that by the end of this year.

So far, what we know about the new Land Rover Defender is that it will remain true to its boxy roots of models past, it will be available in either a two-door or four-door variant, it will use a fully independent suspension front and rear, and it will probably use a combination of Jaguar-Land Rover engines that will include a gas and diesel turbo four-cylinder engines.
