Top 3 Things About the Mercedes-Benz GLA and Its High-Performance AMG Version

Kompaktes Multitalent für den Einstieg in die Mercedes-AMG Welt Der neue Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 4MATIC Compact all-rounder as an entry to the Mercedes-AMG world The new Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 4MATIC

After teasing us with its camouflaged prototypes and partially photographed portions of the crossover, Mercedes-Benz finally unveils the next-generation Mercedes-Benz GLA 250, and its high-performance variant, the Mercedes-AMG GLA 35.

The GLA range will be rolled out in US dealerships by the summer of 2020. European buyers will get their orders delivered to them as early as spring next year though. There’s no official information yet regarding the pricing of the compact SUV but it is estimated to start at the £35,000 mark.

1. Appearance

Mercedes-Benz GLA 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLA 2019

The exterior of the new GLA is not that different from its outgoing model. However, checking it closer will show that it now has a smoother body similar to the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class. It also adopts a new front radiator grille, narrower lights, and redesigned bumpers.

The dimensions of the auto have been updated too. Compared to its predecessor, the new GLA is now 0.6 shorter although it gains 1.1 inches in its wheelbase, 1.2 inches in width and 4.1 inches in height. The new configuration provides extra legroom for the rear seat passengers of the vehicle.

2. Tech and Comfort

Most of the goodies found in the new A-Class are simply carried over to the new GLA such as the circular air vents, steering wheel, controls, standard twin 7-inch displays that can be upgraded to 10.25 inches, and the MBUX multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The AMG GLA 35 version adds the MB-Tex/Dinamica microfiber-covered seats in black with red stitching as well as a carbon-fiber look on the dashboard and side panels. The AMG unit also adds four optional leather upholsteries to choose from.

The car wash function of the Mercedes-Benz GLS SUV trickles down to the GLA too. Basically, this function folds the side mirrors and closes all the windows, including the sunroof, upon activation during car washing. Then the integrated rain sensors of the wipers are deactivated so that they will not automatically engage. In addition, it switches the climate control to air-recirculation mode during the process.

3. Power

Mercedes-Benz GLA, Getriebe, 7G-DCT Mercedes-Benz GLA, transmission, 7G-DCT

The range starts with the Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 carrying a 1.33-liter engine producing 161 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque managed by a seven-speed automatic transmission. This one is only offered in Europe.

The US gets the Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 equipped with a 2.0-liter inline-four engine capable of 221 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The power of the auto is distributed via an eight-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels. The unit boasts a 0-60 mph acceleration at 8.6 seconds and an electronically-limited max speed of 130 mph.

The Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 is fitted with a 2.0-liter turbo inline-four engine. It has 302 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The numbers take the vehicle from 0-60 mph in just 5 seconds while its top speed is electronically-capped at 155 mph.

Mercedes is expected to introduce more power trims for the GLA, including a plug-in hybrid model powered by electricity and petrol. Furthermore, it is set to receive the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 and 45 S models with 382 hp and 354 lb-ft torque plus 416 hp and 369 lb-ft torque, respectively.

Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe: One of the Most Awaited at Geneva Motor Show

One of the most anticipated cars in the 2018 Geneva Motor Show is the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. The car is the production version of the Mercedes-AMG GT Concept  shown at the same auto show last year.

As its world premiere draws near, Mercedes-Benz has been releasing teasers of the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe to further build up hype for it. Above is a video preview giving us a glimpse of the primary styling features of the auto. It provides us a lot of idea what to expect from the vehicle without giving away everything. The 23-second clip ends with a shot of it from above, which display the car with all its four doors open.

We also learn from the video that the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe possesses the biturbo V8 engine of AMG. Then, it carries a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system of Mercedes, which provides more traction to the high-performance car. The official specs of the vehicle’s power unit are not yet available but it should be somewhere in between the output offered by its two-door sibling called the Mercedes-AMG GT R.

Going back to the concept form of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, its maker earlier promised us an output of somewhere around 800 hp. However, that comes with a hybrid setup. So far, there is no indication that the V8 combustion engine of the car’s production version is now paired to electric motors. That would probably come later though in the top trim of the model.

3 Best Features of the Mercedes-AMG Project One

After much hype, the Mercedes-AMG Project One was introduced at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The hypercar concept aims to bring Formula One technology into our roads.

1. Design

The Mercedes-AMG Project One concept borrowed many design elements from the hypercars of our generation. Its styling is reminiscent of the Pagani Huayra, but with a few cosmetic updates and aerodynamic upgrades.

The mid-engined hypercar integrates the Sensual Purity design philosophy of Mercedes. Compared to the Huayra, the Project One has smoother surfaces that give it a luxurious appeal, which is the signature of Mercedes cars, while retaining its very strong sporty presence.

The interior design of the Project One is a notch up from the sporty cabin of the Mercedes-AMG GT. The hypercar has a two-seating capacity. Its seats were made to resemble the sloping styling of the Mercedes AMG Petronas Silver Arrow F1 car’s seat. It has two screen displays too. The most noticeable element inside the car though is its steering wheel, which is heavily inspired by the one installed in the current Mercedes F1 racecar.

2. Power

The Project One is defined by its overwhelming output. According to Mercedes-Benz , it produces more than 1,000 hp, thanks to its hybrid setup. It is powered by a petrol-fed 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine and four electric motors. The electric motors are located in the turbocharger, engine, and one each on the front wheels. An automated 8-speed manual transmission governs the power of the car.

The engine of the vehicle has a rev that can reach up to 11,000 rpm. On the other hand, its electric motors on the front axle give it an additional 50,000 rpm and the shaft is capable of 100,000 rpm.

3. Performance

Mercedes claims that the setup of the Project One completely eliminates the dreaded turbo lag in cars. The resulting acceleration of the auto from zero to 200 km/h is only six seconds. Its top speed can go up to a whopping 350 km/h.

Pagani Huayra Roadster Debuts at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show

pagani huayra roadster (5)

The Pagani Huayra Roadster just made its debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The supercar is considered by its company founder Horacio Pagani as the most complicated project they ever had.

According to the Pagani website , it took the automaker six years to develop the high-performance auto. Check out the key features of the supercar below:

Engine

The Pagani Huayra Roadster is powered by a handcrafted Mercedes-AMG 6.0-liter biturbo V12 engine. The unit produces 764 hp at 5,500 rpm and 100 Nm of torque from 2,300 to 4,300 rpm. All that power is distributed to the rear wheels via a single-clutch manual transmission seven-speed gearbox.

Pagani is yet to release the details about the zero to 62 mph acceleration time of the supercar. However, considering the roadster’s higher output than its 722 hp coupe version and its light frame, it is estimated to be able to achieve such feat in less than three seconds and a split-second faster than its roofed sibling.

Design

The Pagani Huayra Roadster borrows many styling elements found in the Pagani Huayra coupe as well as the Pagani Huayra BC. The roadster may have a more rigid A-Pillar and some of its parts have been reinforced to make up for the absence of its fixed roofing, but it was successful in reducing its weight by 70 kg compared to the coupe.

The weight reduction of the roadster is thanks to its detachable rooftop that makes use of carbon and glass materials. In addition, the vehicle makes use of light monoque chassis.

Moreover, the roadster is fitted with a set of forged aluminum alloy app monolythic wheels measuring 20 inches and 21 inches for the front and rear, respectively. The wheels are wrapped in Pirelli tires.

Pricing

The Pagani Huayra Roadster’s starting price is at €2.28 million or around $2.41 million. The cost is exclusive of taxes and delivery charges.

Exclusivity

Only 100 samples of the supercar will be released in the market.

17C145_032

Mercedes-Benz wasted no time in making a statement at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The three-pointed star marque immediately showcased its new cars and sport utility vehicles in the press conference of the event.

The luxury vehicle brand presented a lot of its products in Geneva, including new drivetrains of its existing GLA range and special edition versions of its cars, but let us take a look at the three new models that really stood out in the event:

1. Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet

17C145_034

The company focused on the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet during the show. The car gets the design of its coupe sibling, but it ditches the roof found in the coupe to give way to a retractable soft top. The featured model in Geneva was the Mercedes-Benz E400 Cabriolet.

2. Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet

Mercedes Benz Media- Preview

The Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet  combines the off-road qualities of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and the ultra-luxurious elements offered by the revived Maybach label.

The landaulet is based on the Mercedes-AMG G63 6×6 and the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4 2 . The SUV has a four-seating capacity and a convertible rear to allow open air ride to its passengers at the back. Massage and neck-leaving heating function were also added for extra level of comfort for its occupants. Moreover, the auto is powered by a V12 engine with an output of 630 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque.

3. Four-Door Mercedes-AMG GT Concept

17C145_011

The company previewed the early phase of the development of the four-door Mercedes-AMG GT Concept. The sports car is the response of the brand to the Porsche Panamera .

Details about the high-performance saloon is still scarce. It is expected to get the form of the Mercedes-AMG GT and its engine trims. However, look forward to a smoother exterior with reduced body lines in the four-door sports car compared to the two-door AMG GT. The enhanced styling is in line with the new “Aesthetics A” design language of the luxury car brand. Of course, there might be adjustments in the measurements of the four-door AMG GT due to its new interior layout.

5 Features Of The 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT By Luethen Motorsport

mercedes-amg-gt-15

To say that the Mercedes-AMG GT has been a hit in the sports car segment seems to be an understatement. Since its release, various tuning kits have been made available for the performance vehicle, particularly by Brabus, Mansory and Wheelsandmore.

You can now add Luethen Motorsport on the list of your top tuning packages for the Mercedes-AMG GT. Here are the top five  features of this Luethen Motorsport-tuned Mercedes-AMG GT:

1. Exterior

Luethen Motorsport gave the Mercedes-AMG GT a carbon fiber aerodynamic kit that includes a new front spoiler lip with an integrated splitter and a few winglets. There’s also an adjustable rear wing, underbody diffuser, a set of side sills, and 20-inch Series-1 forged alloy wheels in Pilot Super Sport tires.

2. Interior

There are no interior upgrades from Luethen Motorsport, much like RevoZport and Dime Racing. Exceptions are Brabus and Mansory, the latter included carbon-fiber door sills, matte-anodised pedals and aluminum paddle shifters in their kits.

3. Drivetrain

Luethen provided software modification on the Mercedes-AMG GT V-8 engine control unit. That tweaking led to an increased production of 612 horsepower and 576 pound-feet of torque—the same results from the likes of Brabus with its 600 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. By remapping the ECU, however, RevoZport managed to increase it to 650 horsepower, plus the addition of free-flow intake system and a new titanium exhaust.

4. Pricing

There is no info yet on how much Luethen Motorsport is charging for its tuned Mercedes-AMG GT, but similar kits can go as much as $50,000 for the program.

5. Competition

This tuned version of the Mercedes-AMG GT is going against the tuning kits for Mercedes-AMG GT S 6.3 Startrack By Wheelsandmore and the Mercedes-AMG GT S RSR By Piecha Design.

Mercedes-AMG GT 4 vs 2018 Porsche Panamera vs 2018 Bentley Continental GT

mercedes-amg-gt-4

Mercedes-AMG GT 4 rendering. (Siource: Car )

Since Mercedes is celebrating the 50 th anniversary of its AMG division, it’s safe to assume that a new Vision concept will soon be unveiled. Reportedly, it is going to be a high-performance four-door super saloon that would be pitted against the likes of the 2018 Porsche Panamera and the 2018 Bentley Continental GT.

Mercedes GT 4

For now, the rumored Mercedes-AMG GT 4 is codenamed X290 until its supposed unveiling in 2019. Reports are saying that the super car will be powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. It is scheduled to hit the market sometime in 2019 with a starting price of $148,000. The model will be based on the same Mercedes architecture and platform that are being used on the C 63, E 63, S 63 AMG variants.

There will be two versions of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine available to the market. The range-topping S 4MATIC+ variant will be able to produce more than 600 horsepower. There are also plans to use an integrated starter generator to complement the V-8 engine.

None of these details have been confirmed yet since these are all concept of the GT 4 for now.

2018 Porsche Panamera

The new Panamera ushered in a new exterior and interior designs, a new engine lineup, and plenty of tech goodies such as LED headlights, safety assistance systems, an innovative chassis system, a 21-speaker Burmester 3D sound system, and plenty of personalization options.

It currently has two models—the Panamera 4S with a 2.9-liter, twin-turbo V-6 that can produce 440 horsepower; and the Panamera Turbo with a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 engine that churns out 550 horsepower.

2018 Bentley Continental GT

The rumored updates for the 2018 Continental GT aren’t much, except for tweaked styling on the exterior, a new V-8 engine, and an upgraded interior. It apparently packs the shortened version of Porsche’s MSB platform, though the higher-end model will reportedly have a 6.0-liter, W-12 engine. No official word on that, though.

Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic Competing In The Midsize SUV Variants

Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 (X 253), 2016

Mercedes has brought its Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic to the midsize SUV game. This one packs a 270 kW (367 hp) 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine, an automatic transmission 9G-TRONIC with shortened shift times, and the AMG performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

Driving performance is assured with the especially tuned suspension based on the Air Body Control with adaptive damping adjustment.

Tobias Moers, CEO at Mercedes-AMG GmbH, said that the new GLC 43 4Matic is the first midsize SUV the company is offering to the market. This follows the record sales of the 2015 Mercedes-AMG.

The engine in the new midsize SUV from Mercedes has been used in a number of AMG performance models. It is also the only six cylinder variant available in GLC. It packs 270 kW (367 hp) maximum output plus a maximum torque of 520 Nm. It can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. Top speed has been put at 250 km/h.

However, the true power of the AMG 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine comes from its low consumption and emissions. Perfect for environmentalists, don’t you think?

On the outside, the midsize SUV has silver chrome and high gloss black features. The radiator grille has chrome-plated pins with the louvre in black, the inserts in high gloss chrome, and the AMG lettering. All of these collide to give the AMG a sporty look.

To complete this appearance, it packs high gloss, black-painted and high-sheen 48.3 cm (19-inch) AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, as well as a black door mirror caps and the silver-colored “BITURBO 4MATIC” lettering on the front wings.

On the tail end, there are two four-pipe chrome tailpipe trims and the AMG-specific rear apron in silver chrome.

Inside, the Merc promises all the convenience of driving and performance. It has a multifunction steering wheel in black leather that sits perfectly on the driver’s hand, as well as two large round dials and a central color multifunction display.

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic will debut at the New York Auto Show. Sales will begin on April 4 and market launch will start in June this year.

Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe Finally Arrives

Mercedes-AMG C 43 Coupé, (A 205), 2016

The Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupe is back 19 years after it introduced the second AMG-tuned C-class that brought the V8 flag with 306 bhp 4.3-litre V8. It can go 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds.

However, that was in 1997. This year, Mercedes comes back with the C43 badge, featuring a warmed-over C-Class Coupe that is second fiddle to the full-fat C63.

Officially called the Mercedes-AMG C43 4MATIC Coupe, this super machine uses a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 that can produce 362 bhp and 384 lb-ft of torque through a nine-speed automatic transmission. Its four-wheel drive runs 0-62 mph in 4.7 seconds, just 0.8 seconds slower than the 503 bhp C63 S Coupe, with a top speed of 155 mph.

The Mercedes-AMG C43 4MATIC Coupe shares its engine with the Mercedes GLE450 AMG Coupe, but is still boasts of a distinct individuality as it was imbued full Mercedes-AMG status.

It might not be the C63, but it can definitely handle itself well.

The 4MATIC all-wheel drive system has a rear-biased 31:69 torque distribution, three-stage adaptive dampers like the C63’s, and “Dynamic Select” drive modes such as Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual.

Expect the front axle to have new steering knuckles with the brakes at a bigger 360mm at the front and 320mm at the rear. This is significantly a step up from the standard C-Class Coupe.

Outside, the “C63-lite” badge is replaced with the “BITURBO-4MATIC” lettering on the flanks. The bodywork, on the other hand, is pimped with exhaust pipes and boot lip spoiler.

The C43 will start to drop in early April with an estimated price of £47,000, which is £20,000 cheaper than its brother. For those who are willing and able to shell out that much money, April is your chance to do so.
