Nissan Leaf Nismo Sport Version Will Go On Sale This Month
The Nissan Leaf Nismo is finally going on sale this month. The Japanese automaker said the Nismo version will be available by the end of this month in Japan. There’s no news yet on an international rollout, though we expect the dates to be announced soon.
Nissan and Nismo, the automaker’s motorsports and in-house tuning division, have been teasing us with the prospect of making a new Leaf for a while. They made true to their promise and has announced the debut date of the Nissan Leaf Nismo.
The Leaf got a much-needed design refresh from the release last year. It still didn’t make it attractive for some but to be fair, Nissan’s electric vehicle has come a long way from how it looked during the company’s first few versions.
Exterior
The Nismo sport version is giving the Leaf an upgrade in terms of the exterior. It now has a more aggressive and sportier design. It features the layered double wings that are the character of the Nismo road car series. It will improve downforce without compromising the drag coefficient, according to a statement from Nissan. There’s also a set of custom 18-inch aluminum wheels that minimize air resistance.
There are nine body colors available, including the Nismo series’ custom Brilliant Silver/Super Black two-tone and Dark Metal Grey/Super Black two-tone. Both come with a metallic finish.
Interior
The cabin has a sporty appearance as it uses Nismo’s custom red accents, including the three-spoke steering wheel with a red center mark. The instrument panel has a custom carbon-like finish while the electronic shift has a gunmetal chrome finish.
The Leaf Nismo’s 18-inch high-grip tires and custom suspension system assures a comfortable ride and stable handling. The custom-tuned electric power steering and Intelligent Trace Control for cornering stabilization system provide high stability and lane-tracing abilities.
3 Ways The 2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO’s Pricing Disappointed Us
We were all expecting the 2017 Nissan Sentra NISMO to come at under $25,000 because that was what the Japanese automaker earlier revealed. So, it came as a big surprise that the NISMO, Nissan’s new sport compact, was priced at $25,855 because of the mandatory destination fee that was put at $5,000.
Aside from that, here are the three ways that Nissan NISMO surprised us:
1. The base price applies to both options.
How can there be one price for two different transmissions? The $25,855 price tag for the base model covers both the CVT automatic transmission and the 6-speed manual transmission. The latter is obviously the better choice for this turbocharged sedan but of course, there are drivers who prefer to go manual than automatic. Still, it was quite curious why Nissan decided to price the two trims the same. Traditionally, manual transmission should be cheaper.
2. The factory option for Sentra NISMO is priced at $295 and $1,220
Besides two transmission choices, Nissan only offers two other factory options for the 2017 NISMO. The first one is the Aspen White exterior color that sells for an extra $295 and the second one is the Premium package that adds $1,220 on the base price. The Premium package will bring in the Bose audio system and a 5.8-inch touchscreen that has navigation and satellite radio features. Coming standard to the NISMO are the following: heated seats, backup camera, proximity key, microsuede inserts for the steering wheel, a body kit, and 18-inch wheels in 215/45 all-season tires.
If you want summer tires, that is possible too, though Nissan has yet to release the pricing for that.
3. The Nissan NISMO costs more than Ford and Volkswagen.
The Ford Focus ST, which sells for $25,650, and the Volkswagen Golf GTI, which is priced at $26,415, are all coming in cheaper than the 2017 NISMO. That doesn’t make sense, actually, because the Focus ST is more powerful at 252 horsepower while the Golf GTI already ranked in the 10 Best Cars. The Ford Fiesta ST, which costs only $21,995, is 9-horsepower more powerful than the NISMO.
The only reason we can think of why the NISMO is priced higher is because of the stiffer suspension tuning and trim differences.
5 Things To Note About The 2017 Nissan Sentra Nismo
For the 2017 model year, Nissan is upgrading its Sentra Sedan through the work of its in-house tuner, Nismo. This was introduced ahead of the planned launching at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show on Wednesday.
Here are 5 things you need to know about the Nismo-tuned Sentra based on a source :
1. Concept form Was Previewed In 2013
Back during the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, Nissan gave us a glimpse of the concept form for the Nissan Sentra Nismo. The problem is, this production version missed out on what the concept has boasted about—240 horsepower. Instead, this Nismo-tuned Sentra will be founded on the Sentra SR Turbo’s setup, which is only good for 188 horsepower.
This will be paired with a front-axle drive and either a 6-speed manual or CVT.
2. “Sporty” Feel Was Fine Tuned
Where Nissan focused was on making sure that the car has a sporty feel to it. Its engineers enhanced the Sentra Nismo’s performance based on aerodynamics, body reinforcements and suspension tuning. They also added some features interior-wise to add to that sporty feel.
3. Chassis Was Adjusted For Sturdier Feel
The Sentra Nismo now has a chassis that has monotube rear dampers and unique tuning on the front springs and struts. They also added stabilizer bars at the front and rear for sturdier driving. The car’s electronic power steering is also fitted with Nismo calibrations for a sportier feel.
4. Nismo Red Accents Were Added In The Exterior
Nissan wants the Nismo to appeal to sporty individuals. As such, they have to tweak the exterior a little bit by making it more aggressive. The Nismo body kit includes Nismo’s signature red accents. It also has 18-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport and 11-inch housing ventilated brake discs at both ends.
The Sentra Nismo comes in four colors: Brilliant Silver, Gun Metallic, Super Black and Aspen White.
5. Interior Receives A Special Treatment
Inside the Sentra Nismo, there are Nismo logos and extra-bolstered seats with red stitching. The sportier steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara and leather trim. Completing the “special treatment” is a dark headliner and Nismo logo on the instrument panel.
The interior color is charcoal with red accents.
Nissan Releases US Pricing For 2017 GT-R Nismo
Nissan has released a US pricing of $174,990 for the new 2017 GT-R Nismo during its North American debut at the Japanese Classic Car Show at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California.
The JCCS, an annual gathering, is the largest one of Japanese heritage enthusiasts in the country. It attracts nearly 400 private heritage cars and more than 7,000 spectators.
The GT-R Nismo is now on sale at certified Nissan dealers nationwide. The premium model, on the other hand, started sale early this summer.
The GT-R Nismo is now available for the third straight year, and it continues to deliver supercar dynamics with advanced aerodynamics and precise handling. Nismo, the brand’s motorsport specialists, developed the GT-R Nismo. The model is available in very limited numbers in North America.
The GT-R Nismo for this model year is characterized by a new look inside and out, including driving performance enhancements. The GT-R Premium will be sold for $109,990 while the GT-R Nismo can be bought for $174,990. Destination and handling will be $1,595.
Michael Bunce, vice president for product planning of Nissan North America, said the Nissan GT-R’s performance was “honed, tuned and developed” at the Nürburgring race course last spring.
The 2017 GT-R Nismo has a new “V-motion” grille, which is one of Nissan’s latest design signatures, was enlarged for better engine cooling. It also now features a matte chrome finish, an updated mesh pattern, and a new hood with pronounced character lines that flow from the grille. This same hood was enhanced for high speed driving.
Unique to the Nismo are the carbon fiber front and rear bumpers, black outside mirrors with red stripe, and carbon fiber side sills and emblem. The rear spoiler is made of carbon and has a special coating for the carbon fiber weave style. This material allows for a lightweight feel with strong characteristics.
Video: Japanese Police Gets The Nissan 370Z
There seems to be a pervading trend now among the governments of first-world nations: use sports car as the official livery of the country’s police force.
Just recently, Nissan handed over three of its 370Z to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department to show they are supporting the men and women in service of Tokyo, Japan.
The cars are all decked out in black-and-white regalia, complete with flashing lights and all the livery worthy of a police car. If one looks at the cars closely, they can also notice the Nissan badge at the front was replaced by the Tokyo police force’s shield.
Especially prepared by Nismo using the 370Z Nismo as donor, these three new police cars for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department will use Nissan’s familiar 3.7-liter V6 engine, based on a report . For these particular cars, the engine can deliver 350 horsepower.
Nissan provided the cars after the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department called on Japanese automakers to provide them with an “iconic car” that will help represent the department’s commitment to road safety in the city (and even in surrounding areas).
This was a similar strategy used by the UAE government, particularly Dubai, although things are quite different in that oil-rich country. For the Dubai Police Department, nothing short of the priciest sports cars can speak out against the deluge of high performance engines parading around the city every single day.
Exotic cars such as the Bugatti Veyron and the Porsche 918 Spyder make up the Dubai Police Department’s fleet.
Such a call from Japan (and even from Dubai) followed an announcement by Italy’s Carabinieri earlier this month that it has a handful of Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglios in its fleet.
Can you just imagine having a Bugatti for a police car? The Nissan 370Z is not in any way cheap, but the Bugatti, Porsche and Alfa Romeo are on totally different platforms.
