A Modern Take on a Traditional Wreath: The Macrame Wrapped Tulip Hoop Wreath

Tulips wreaths are beautiful traditional spring wreaths. But lately the wreath trend has been moving from grapevine wreath to a more modern style hoop wreath. So how do you combine a modern hoop wreath with a traditional style tulip wreath? That’s easy. You add a little macrame around a metal hoop and then attach tulips and that leaves you with a gorgeous modern tulip hoop wreath. Ready to make your own spring tulip wreath?
You’ll a metal hoop wreath from the craft section of the Hobby Store, rough twine, fake tulips and some floral wire.
I used a 14″ hoop and rough twine. Michael’s Crafts has small bunches of tulips for $4 each. On the day that I was there they were $2 each. Between the tulips and other supplies, this wreath cost about $15 to make. That’s a great deal! How to macrame around a metal hoop:
Doing simple macrame around a metal hoop is easy. Start by tying your twine onto the hoop. Then all you’re going to do is make a number 4 out of twine.
To succeed in this process it’s only important that you always go the same exact way with your twine. For instance, if you look at the top of the right hand you’ll see that the twine is on top of the hoop. Every single time I do this, I need to have the twine be on top of the hoop.
Now go under the hoop with your twine and inside twin loop that you have and then just pull it tight until it lays against the twine you’ve already done.
The end of the twine will move as it forms each stitch of the macrame so you can move the twine to however it’s comfortable for you, as long as you stay with the same format and pattern. Just think to yourself, make a number 4, put the twine into the middle of the 4 and pull tight.
It’s the same process as making friendship bracelets. It’s easy to sit there and do while you read or watch something on Netflix and once you get the process down, it will fly by. 
Isn’t that fun! It adds so much texture and detail!
Next Step: Completing Your Modern Style Hoop Wreath
Once your hoop is fully covered, it’s time to add the tulips. This is so easy you won’t believe it. Take your first bunch of tulips and lay it out how you want it on the wreath. I chose to bend the stems slightly into more of a circular shape. Once you have it where you want it, loop floral wire around it and then hoop a few times to get it to stay. Then lay out the next bunch of tulips covering where you just attached the first bunch with wire. Line them up until you think they look great and then tie them down with foral wire in the same way.
Attach all three bunches of tulips.
Once you’re done you’re going to cover up the green stems of the last bunch with twine. I thought about doing more macrame around the stems but I tried just wrapping it around first and i liked how it looked so I just kept going!
I simple wrapped the twine around and around until I had fully covered up the green plastic stems.
And then I was done!
I am so in love with this wreath.
At first my plan was to attach a burlap bow but once I saw the wreath I knew it was done.
Isn’t she lovely? Isn’t she wonderful?
Now I can finally get away from these gray clouds that have been plaguing us here in Houston and see the sunshine of this wreath.

I just played around with it until it hung straight. You can also use those Command Velcro Strips to get it to stay where you want.
