The Sweetest Valentine’s Day Wreath / Door Hanger

There’s two things you should know about me: 1) I love the clearance aisle and 2) I’m like to “find” things. There’s nothing that makes my heart pitter patter more than finding a use for something awesome I’ve found at a thrift store or on a clearance rack. This easy DIY Valentine’s Day Wreath idea therefore is making my heart jump out of my chest and back again.

I found this old gray frame (which is extremely old) sometime ago and it’s just been hanging out, feeling pretty unloved, in our guest room since then. It needed a purpose.

If you follow me on Instagram , you know that I often take my followers shopping with me at Michaels. We have a blast. A few weeks ago while I was there after Christmas, I found all their Christmas Ribbon marked %75 off. I couldn’t leave without the black buffalo check ribbon or the red glitter ribbon.

They needed a home, I had one. I also needed a new Valentine’s wreath for my front door.

Making this wreath / Valentine’s Day door hanger was extremely simple. You can make your own similar look with just a few simple supplies and about 10-15 minutes of your time.

I started by using wire to attach the black buffalo check ribbon to the frame. I used a small coated wire so it wouldn’t scratch the frame. Plus when I’m done with this, I can remove the wire and the ribbon and still be able to use the frame again.

Next I turned the red glitter ribbon over and used a template to draw hearts so I could cut out the same size and shape heart. You could use a Cricut or Silhouette to do this, I just did it by hand and it only took a few minutes.

I cut out 20 hearts total because I glued them front to back on the string I was using. You could make them be one sided and only need a few hearts. It’s up to you.

This red glitter ribbon is my happy place.

As I talk about in this post about saving money on craft supplies , you can save a lot of money in crafting by looking at the bigger picture for each thing you buy rather than only using it for it’s intended purpose. Some people didn’t grab the red glitter ribbon on clearance because they only saw it as a ribbon. I saw it as hearts and so much more…

After my hearts were attached to three separate pieces of string, actually embroidery thread, I glued them onto the back of the frame. Once it was all dry, it was ready to hang.

I’m so in love. Part of me wants to take it off the front door and put it somewhere I can see it better such as the mantel or on one of our living room shelves.

It’s cute and easy to make. What’s not to love about that?

I also have this older post with one of my other favorite wreaths I made using clearance ribbon…
